Coco Gauff and Madison Keys meet in the quarterfinals of the 2025 French Open at Roland Garros. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4. Here’s our Coco Gauff vs Madison Keys prediction. This preview will also include a Coco Gauff vs Madison Keys pick.
Coco Gauff Preview
Coco Gauff is coming off a straight-sets win over World No. 20 Ekaterina Alexandrova. The American blitzed through the first set 6-0 in under half an hour. Alexandrova put in more effort in the second set, but never led at any point. It was Gauff who got a late break in the 11th game and served for set 7-5. Gauff compiled 14 winners and 17 unforced errors in the match. That included three aces and four double faults.
Gauff landed 59% of first serves in play and won 65% of first serve points (28/43). She won 60% of second serve points (18/30) and saved eight of nine breakpoints in the match. Gauff has not lost a set. She has also accounted for wins over Olivia Gadecki, Tereza Valentova, and Marie Bouzkova.
It’s the fifth year in a row that Gauff has reached the French Open quarterfinals. She was a runner-up in 2022 and made the semis 12 months ago, losing both times to Iga Swiatek. Gauff has a 15-3 record on clay this year and has reached the last two finals on clay (Madrid and Rome).
Madison Keys Preview
Madison Keys will contest her first quarterfinal at the French Open since 2019. In the first round, Keys beat Daria Saville of Australia 6-2, 6-1. In the second round, she eliminated British No. 1 Katie Boulter 6-1, 6-3. Her biggest test came in the third round, where she saved a match point to knock out Sofia Kenin 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Keys defeated Hailey Baptiste in straight sets in the last 16. The match took about 96 minutes and 21 games to decide. Keys won broke Baptiste for a 4-2 lead in the first set and served to love in the ninth game to win 6-3. In the second set, Baptiste briefly went up a break, but it was only for a fleeting period. Keys would break serve twice to turn it around. Keys finished with 26 winners in total and 18 unforced errors. She hammered seven aces and two double faults. She has a 9-3 record on clay in 2025.
Coco Gauff vs Madison Keys Head-To-Head
Gauff and Keys have met five times at the tour level. Keys leads 3-2 and beat Gauff in their only clay meeting at the 2024 Madrid Open in three sets.
Coco Gauff vs Madison Keys Prediction
Keys’ buildup to Roland Garros was a mixed bag, but there is some semblance of consistency in this tournament. But I’m giving Gauff an edge in this one. I don’t think it’s a stretch to claim she is one of the best players on clay. She’s a fast mover and has an exceptional backhand. Even the forehand doesn’t look like a charitable liability anymore. Key likes to finish points early, but Gauff runs down everything on this surface, and she is proficient at frustrating opponents who are not comfortable in grinding. Obviously, Keys’ power-packed forehand doesn’t need perfect conditions to work and do damage, but it’s unlikely to be sustainable over three full sets.
