Valentin Vacherot made history as he became the first Monegasque player to reach the semifinal of the Monte Carlo Masters. The 27-year-old knocked out sixth seed Alex de Minaur in three sets in the quarterfinals. Vacherot made a bright start when he secured the first break of the match in the second game of the first set. Although he briefly surrendered that lead, Vacherot broke de Minaur in the 10th game of the set to clinch it 6-4.
There was a response from the Aussie in the second set where he broke Vacherot’s serve twice to level the match. But the crowd certainly played their part when Vacherot needed the energy in the decider. The Monegasque broke de Minaur twice to complete one of the biggest wins of his career.
