Belinda Bencic will continue her comeback from maternity leave by playing the second leg of the Sunshine Swing in Miami. The Swiss is back in the Top 50 of the WTA rankings thanks to a 17-5 record for the season. 

Bencic who started the season by making the second week of the Australian Open won her first title as a mother in Abu Dhabi last month, beating former Wimbledon champions Marketa Vondrousova and Elena Rybakina en route to the final.

Bencic is coming off a quarterfinal finish in Indian Wells. During the week, she beat three Top 20 players including World No. 3 Coco Gauff. She lost to Australian Open champion Madison Keys in the last eight. 

This will be Bencic’s eighth main draw appearance at the Miami Open. Her best result was a semifinal run in 2022. In her most recent visit in 2023, she was beaten in the third round by Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Dayana Yastremska Preview

Dayana Yastremska has also re-entered the Top 50. The Ukrainian had dropped as low as 72nd after the Australian Open for failing to defend semifinal points from last season. 

But Yastremska quickly regained some of those points at the start of February in Linz where she made the final and lost to Alexandrova. She won two matches in the Middle East, both in Dubai where she made the round of 16, losing to Iga Swiatek.

Again, it was the Pole who stood in her way in Indian Wells, this time she was knocked out in the third round at the BNP Paribas Open. Yastremska has compiled a 12-7 record for the season and sits in the 42nd spot, which is three above Bencic.

Yastremska will make her third main draw appearance at the Miami Open. Her best result was reaching the third round here last season.

There is decent value in the Yastremska set handicap +1.5. Bencic is having a great start to the season without a doubt. She sits only behind Andreeva, Swiatek, and Keys for the most matches won in 2025. But she’s had a physically taxing couple of months and we saw the wheels coming off in her comprehensive defeat to Keys in Indian Wells. There’s a tiny possibility that might carry on in Miami and Yastremska’s big-hitting can unnerve even the world’s best on her day. Bencic is usually accustomed to playing longer rallies, but players like Yastremska who hit the ball ferociously and deep, can take her out of her comfort zone. For Yastremska, it’s all about timing, and when she gets a proper smack at the ball, she is extremely lethal.
