Amanda Anisimova and Tatjana Maria meet in the final of the HSBC Championships at London’s Queen’s Club. The match is scheduled for Sunday, June 15. Here’s our Amanda Anisimova vs Tatjana Maria prediction. This preview will also include an Amanda Anisimova vs Tatjana Maria pick.

Amanda Anisimova Preview

Amanda Anisimova entered the WTA 500 event at Queen’s as the eighth seed and powered through to her first career final on grass. The American started the week by beating British wild card Jodie Burrage 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

It was one of only two times Anisimova dropped a set during the tournament. She went on to demolish Sonay Kartal 6-1, 6-3 in the second round. Anisimova then earned two Top 10 wins in succession to make the final. First, she beat countrywoman Emma Navarro 6-3, 6-3 before taking out Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. Anisimova, who is signed up to play in Berlin next week, will contest her second final of the season. She won her first in Doha, which was her maiden WTA 1000 title. And now she has a golden chance to lift her first grass-court title in a match where she’ll be favored to win.

Tatjana Maria Preview

Not many people will be writing off Tatjana Maria after a sensational week of tennis. The German veteran is one of the trickiest players to play on grass because of her slice-and-dice game that is often problematic to deal with on this slick and fast-paced surface.

The 37-year-old started the week from qualifying, winning a couple of matches and dropping only a combined four games. Maria’s draw was treacherous with two former Grand Slam finalists and Major champions lurking. She took out Leylah Fernandez and Karolina Muchova to earn a quarterfinal showdown against 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina. Maria stunned the Kazakh 6-4, 7-6 to reach an unlikely semifinal. There, she overcame Australian Open champion Madison Keys 6-3, 7-6. Maria has won an ITF title this season, but her last WTA title was two years ago on clay in Bogota.

Amanda Anisimova vs Tatjana Maria Head-To-Head

Tatjana Maria beat Amanda Anisimova in three sets in their only career meeting at the 2018 China Open.

Amanda Anisimova vs Tatjana Maria Prediction

The head-to-head makes for an irrelevant stat here. Still, nobody is going to write off Maria’s chances in this final after a spectacular run from qualifying. She’s beaten a couple of much-fancied favorites and Major champions. That’s enough justification to rate her chances of potentially lifting this title. But I’ve been more impressed by Anisimova’s reaction after her French Open exit. It could have been so easy to lose motivation right from her opening match, where she dropped a set to Burrage, but hung on and played some of her best tennis on grass. Anisimova’s backhand is a shot I absolutely rate so highly, and I reckon it will hold up against Maria’s wicked slices. The German is not a one-tricky pony as some may suggest, because she’s been serving exceptionally well during the week, so this might go the full distance with Anisimova just getting my vote to win outright.

Nur Said's Pick: Amanda Anisimova in three sets
