Amanda Anisimova and Peyton Stearns meet in the second round of the 2025 WTA Madrid Open on Friday, April 25, 2025. Here’s our Amanda Anisimova vs Peyton Stearns prediction. This preview will also include an Amanda Anisimova vs Peyton Stearns pick.
Amanda Anisimova Preview
Amanda Anisimova will play in her second clay-court tournament of 2025. Anisimova reached the semifinals of Charleston in her first clay event at the start of April, tallying wins over Veronika Kudermetova, Emma Navarro, and Yulia Putintseva. She retired against Sofia Kenin due to a back injury.
Anisimova hasn’t competed since. This has been a very good season for Anisimova, who is currently ranked 16th in the world – a personal best ranking. The highlight so far was winning her first WTA 1000 tournament in Doha in February. Overall, she has posted a 14-6 record for the season. This will be the American’s fifth main draw visit to Madrid. She’s had mixed results in the past, reaching the quarterfinals in 2022, but has lost her opening match there three times. Anisimova is the 15th seed this week and was given a bye in the first round.
Peyton Stearns Preview
Peyton Stearns is unseeded in Madrid. She started the week in the first round and scored her ninth victory in 19 matches this season. Stearns came from behind to beat Australia’s Kimberly Birrell 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in a two and a half hour humdinger.
In the victory, Stearns accumulated three aces and six double faults. She landed 77% of first serves in play and won 61% of first serve points (48/79). Stearns won 46% of second serve points (11/24) and saved seven of 12 breakpoints. The world No. 44 won 49% of return points in the match (49/101). Stearns kicked off her European clay swing in Charleston but lost her opener to Ajla Tomljanovic there. She has advanced beyond the second round of a WTA tournament only once this season.
Amanda Anisimova vs Peyton Stearns Head-To-Head
Anisimova and Stearns have never met at any WTA tournament.
Amanda Anisimova vs Peyton Stearns Prediction
This is such an intriguing all-American clash. Anisimova and Stearns are two powerfully gifted players, and I’m looking forward to seeing their forehand-to-backhand exchanges. Anisimova possesses one of the best backhands on tour, capable of finding winners from impossible positions. Stearns’ forehand is a thing of beauty. She can strike it with willpower and a high margin, and it is a legit weapon on this fast-paced court in Madrid. I think if Anisimova is locked in from the first ball and gets over that back injury from Charleston, she’ll win. If she misfires and sprays too many errors, I see Stearns hanging around long enough to make things awkward.
