Alexander Zverev secured a comeback win against Matteo Arnaldi to reach the last 16 in Acapulco. The German prevailed 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 46 minutes.

In the victory, Zverev hit 29 winners to 42 unforced errors. That tally included eight aces and one double fault. Zverev landed 64% of first serves and won 78% of first serve points (49/63).

I blindly thought Norrie was capable of beating Tien for a second time, ignoring the fact that Tien is such a quick learner (no pun intended). Less than two months from their first meeting he scoured for a solution to beat the Briton. Zverev’s American round-trip is not having the desired results and performances. He failed to make the semis or finals in two South American clay-court tournaments despite being the heavy favorite. And his North American trip began with a near three-hour marathon win over Arnaldi.

Zverev is an elite player, make no mistake about it, and by his own words, the best player not to win a Grand Slam, but he’s still prone to inconsistencies particularly when playing against sharp players with decent tennis acumen like Tien who can throw him off his game. The young American already has one top 10 scalp to his name this season and he’s ready to pull off a similar upset here.
