Alex Michelsen will play in his second Delray Beach Open. The 20-year-old’s debut last year saw him defeat Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round but lost to fellow American Tommy Paul in the last 16.

Michelsen comes into this year’s Delray tournament ranked inside the top 40 which is his highest ceiling on the ATP Tour. The young American has posted a 7-4 record for the season.

His best results were in New Zealand and Australia last month where he reached the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 in Auckland and the fourth round of the Australian Open in which he beat former top 10 players Stefanos Tsitsipas and Karen Khachanov.

Michelsen participated at the ATP 500 event in Dallas this past week but lost his opening match to Cameron Norrie. He had a bye in the opening round in Delray as a seeded player.

Michael Mmoh Preview

Michael Mmoh came through qualifying in Delray and defeated Kazakhstan’s Alexander Shevchenko in the main draw 7-5, 7-6 in two hours.

In the victory, Mmoh hit five aces and one double fault. He landed 69% of first serves and won 67% of first serve points (37/55). Mmoh won 52% of second serve points (13/25) and saved six of nine break points on his serve.

Mmoh won 42% of return points (33/79) and broke Shevchenko four times in the match. He improves to 7-2 for the season in all competitions, with the majority of his wins coming from qualifying rounds.

Mmoh can reach his first ATP quarterfinals since April 2024 in Houston.

Michelsen is the clear favorite and should win this match on the basis of his gradual rise in the rankings in the past year, but he’ll need to grind out the victory here against his compatriot.
