Jack Draper and Joao Fonseca meet in the second round of the 2025 BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells on Saturday, March 8, 2025. Here's our Jack Draper vs Joao Fonseca prediction. This article will also include a Jack Draper vs Joao Fonseca pick.
Jack Draper Preview
Jack Draper is the No. 13 seed in Indian Wells and got a bye in the first round. This will be the British No. 1's third main draw appearance at the desert. Draper retired from his round of 16 match on debut two years ago while playing Carlos Alcaraz.
It was a breakthrough week for him, having garnered wins over his fellow Brits Dan Evans and Andy Murray earlier in the tournament.
Last year, Draper was knocked out in the first round by Christopher O'Connell as a -476 pre-match favorite. Draper has compiled a 7-2 record this season, having played in just two tournaments.
Health continues to derail his momentum. His first tournament was the Australian Open. He reached the fourth round there and was forced to retire due to injury. In his second tournament, his body held up after a pair of grueling three-set matches en route to the final in Doha. There, he lost to Andrey Rublev.
Joao Fonseca Preview
Joao Fonseca is a wild card entrant in this year's BNP Paribas Open. The Brazilian youngster defeated Jacob Fearnley for the second time this season
The match took 24 games to decide and lasted about two hours. Fonseca prevailed 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in tough, windy conditions. In the victory, Fonseca hit 17 winners and 34 unforced errors. That figure included three aces and two double faults.
Fonseca landed 58% of first serves in play and won 69% of first serve points (34/49). He won 49% of second serve points (17/35) and saved six of nine break points. Fonseca tallied 44% of return points (40/90) and broke Fearnley four times in the match. This was his first win in Indian Wells.
Fonseca improves to 15-3 for the season in all competitions. He has six wins from his last seven matches at the Tour level - a run that included a first-ever ATP title in Buenos Aires.

Jack Draper vs Joao Fonseca Prediction
I'm going Fonseca here. He's not just the newest kid on the block, he's the real deal. I'm buying the hype. Brazilian tennis fans haven't been this excited since Gustavo "Guga" Kuerten's days. And I genuinely think Fonseca has a bigger forehand than Draper. We know how the Brit loves to unleash that shot, but Fonseca beats him to the punch. His forehand is a combination of excellent timing and effortless follow-through and what's scary is that he can produce an equally weighted backhand. His movement is stellar and there are not many gaps in his game. Getting Fonseca at plus money is a steal. He's already settled in these tough conditions in Indian Wells having played a day match in turbulent winds.
