Iga Swiatek Preview
Iga Swiatek ended the fairytale run of German lucky loser Eva Lys in brutal fashion. The Pole only lost one game in a 6-0, 6-1 demolition job which took exactly an hour of play.
Swiatek hammered 28 winners and 18 unforced errors in the match which included three aces and two double faults.
Swiatek landed 70% of first serves and won 81% of first serve points (21/26). She won 82% of second serve points (9/11) and saved both break points she faced.
The World No. 2 tallied 62% of return points (29/47) and 90% of net points (9/10). She converted five of nine break points.
Swiatek improves to 8-1 for the season and has not lost a set at the 2025 Australian Open. Additionally, she has not lost more than four games in a set.
Emma Navarro Preview
Emma Navarro will contest her first Australian Open quarterfinal. This is only her second main draw appearance in Melbourne.
But she's taken massive strides in joining the WTA's elite in the last 12 months with a maiden Grand Slam semifinal coming at the 2024 US Open.
To get here, Navarro saw off Peyton Stearns, Xiyu Wang and Ons Jabeur, in three-setters.
In the fourth round she met World No. 10 Daria Kasatkina. Navarro looked on course for a straight sets victory, but spurned four match points in the second set.
Ultimately she was not made to pay for those misses and sealed the decider in the 12th game. The match took 34 games to decide and lasted two hours and 43 minutes.
Navarro hit 40 winners and 50 unforced errors and that included one ace and five double faults.
Navarro landed 70% of first serves and won 64% of first serve points (48/75). She won 25% of second serve points (8/32) and saved three of 11 break points in the match.
Navarro won 53% of return points (73/137) and 73% of net points (11/15). She converted nine of 25 break points on the Kasatkina serve.
Iga Swiatek vs Emma Navarro Head-To-Head
• Swiatek and Navarro have never played at the WTA level.
• Their only competitive meeting was on the ITF circuit, with Swiatek winning a match in Charleston in straight sets.
Iga Swiatek vs Emma Navarro Prediction
Swiatek and Navarro have taken two contrasting routes to the quarterfinal. With Swiatek winning four matches in straight sets, including a trio of 6-0 sets, Navarro has played a three-setter in every round. She can count herself fortunate that Xiyu Wang lacked the mental fortitude to see her off in the second round, with the Chinese coming within two games of victory. The American will need perfection to match or overcome Swiatek because that's the level the Pole demands from her opponents. And on the evidence of her performances during the fortnight, I don't see it happening.
Nur’s Pick Iga Swiatek in straight sets
