Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova meet in the final of the 2024 China Open in Beijing. The match is scheduled for Sunday, October 6, 2024. Here's our Coco Gauff vs Karolina Muchova prediction. This article will also contain a Coco Gauff vs Karolina Muchova pick.
Coco Gauff vs Karolina Muchova Preview
Coco Gauff earned a fantastic comeback win over in-form Spaniard Paula Badosa. For the second time at this tournament, Gauff dropped a set, but fought back a losing deficit in the second set before she prevailed 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in two hours and 21 minutes.
In the victory, Gauff hammered six aces and 11 double faults. She landed only 53% of first serves but won 76% of first-serve points (37/49). Gauff won 41% of second-serve points (18/44) and converted six of 20 break points.
This was only her ninth win on a hard court since the start of August. If she wins the title on Sunday, Gauff will re-enter the top five, replacing Jasmine Paolini as World No. 5.
Karolina Muchova backed up her odds-defying win over Aryna Sabalenka by beating the golden girl of Chinese tennis in Qinwen Zheng. Like in her quarterfinal match, Muchova demonstrated her all-court mastery and well-rounded baseline game, dominating Zheng with point-ending shots.
Zheng's nasty fall midway through the first set did not help her cause as she needed a lengthy treatment for an abrasion of her knuckles. Muchova's season which only started in late June because of a wrist injury, posted her 18th win of the season and is through to her second final of 2024.
Coco Gauff vs Karolina Muchova Head-To-Head
• Gauff leads the series 2-0.
• She defeated Muchova twice during the US summer hard-court swing last year, in Cincinnati and the US Open.
Coco Gauff vs Karolina Muchova Prediction
Something has to give in this final. Will Coco Gauff pick up her first singles title since January? Will Karolina Muchova end her long barren run without a WTA title - precisely five years since she won one?
Considering the level of competition that Muchova has had to face in the last two rounds, I'd lean towards the Czech here. She's been ruthlessly efficient in reaching the second week where she played high-level tennis against Aryna Sabalenka and then completely muted the Beijing crowd against Qinwen Zheng.
Gauff's serve is the shot that Muchova will try and exploit and we have seen players try to attack the American's forehand in rallies given how fragile and error-prone it has been. Muchova doesn't have many flaws in her game right now. She should end her long wait for a big title on Sunday.
