Carlos Alcaraz continued his great run of form at the 2024 China Open by blitzing Karen Khachanov in straight sets. After a tight opening set in which both players exchanged breaks early on, it was Alcaraz who cranked up the temperature late on by securing the decisive break to win the set 7-5.

In the second set, the Spaniard cleaned up his return game and was successful in breaking the Russian twice. Alcaraz has now reached his second successive semifinal in Beijing, but will he improve from last year's defeat to eventual champion Jannik Sinner?

Alcaraz has compiled a 47-9 record for the season while garnering 20 wins on hard courts in all competitions.

It will be Daniil Medvedev who blocks his path this time. Like Alcaraz, the World No. 5 has not dropped a set at the 2024 China Open, accounting for an impressive win over Italy's rising star Flavio Cobolli in the quarterfinal. 

Medvedev dropped only six games and needed just 89 minutes to prevail 6-2, 6-4. He won 78% first-serve points (29/37) and 47% second-serve points (16/34). Medvedev converted four of eight break points.
