The second week of the new NHL season starts with six games, so make sure you don’t miss out on the NHL Picks for Monday 10/14/2024.

Florida Panthers vs Boston Bruins Prediction NHL Picks 10/14/24

Panthers at Bruins at 1 PM ET

In their latest game against the Buffalo Sabres, the Florida Panthers experienced a disappointing loss, ending with a score of 5-2. Goaltender Spencer Knight was unable to perform at the required level, saving only 22 of the 26 shots he encountered. The Panthers’ offense saw a glimmer of hope through Sam Bennett, who managed to score one goal.

The Bruins are striving for their third consecutive win after achieving victories in their previous two games. In their latest match against the Los Angeles Kings, they triumphed with a score of 2-1. The game extended into overtime, but the Bruins successfully completed the task. Both Elias Lindholm and David Pastrnak found the back of the net. Jeremy Swayman took to the crease and showcased his skills by saving 33 out of 34 shots faced.

The Pick:

The Florida Panthers have encountered difficulties in their scoring efforts over the past few games, and this trend is likely to continue. The Bruins allowed only a single goal in their most recent match, which will be a significant factor in this contest. The Panthers are expected to face challenges in generating offensive plays, which will ultimately lead to the Bruins securing a victory. I’ll back the Bruins on the money line for this matchup.

LA Kings vs Ottawa Senators Prediction NHL Picks 10/14/24

Kings at Senators at 1 PM ET

This season, the Los Angeles Kings have a record of 1-0-1 after suffering an overtime loss to the Boston Bruins, ending the game at 2-1 on Saturday. The Kings were ahead 1-0 in the second period but allowed the Bruins to tie the game late in that period, leading to their defeat in overtime. The Kings outperformed Boston in shots, totaling 34 compared to Boston’s 25, and recorded 24 hits, although they were unsuccessful on five power-play attempts. Moore netted the only goal for Los Angeles, while Kuemper recorded a .920 save percentage by saving 23 out of 25 shots.

The Ottawa Senators have begun the season with a record of 1-1-0 after suffering a 4-1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens in their most recent game. The team fell behind early, trailing 2-0 at the end of the first period and 3-0 by the third. Nevertheless, they managed to score in the final period, preventing a shutout. In terms of statistics, the Senators were outshot 26-25, delivered 17 hits, and were unsuccessful on all four power-play attempts. Stutzle was the sole scorer for Ottawa, while Ullmark achieved a save percentage of .846 by stopping 22 of the 26 shots faced.

The Pick:

In this matchup, Ottawa will benefit from the home-ice advantage, and I believe they also possess a superior goaltending situation. The Kings recently faced a challenging game against Boston on Saturday, and I consider a road trip to commence the season to be quite demanding. While this may not be my preferred game, I am going to support the Senators in this duel.

Utah Hockey Club vs New Jersey Devils Prediction NHL Picks 10/14/24

Utah at Devils at 1 PM ET

The Utah Hockey Club enters this matchup aiming to extend their undefeated record of 3-0 for the season, following a thrilling victory over the New York Rangers, which concluded with a score of 6-5 in overtime. Clayton Keller is at the forefront for Utah, accumulating 6 points through 3 goals and 3 assists. Meanwhile, Dylan Guenther, Barrett Hayton, and Logan Cooley each contribute 5 points, with Guenther leading the team with 5 goals, Hayton recording 3 goals and 2 assists, and Cooley providing 5 assists. Additionally, Nick Schmaltz has tallied 4 assists, while both Lawson Crouse and Mikhail Sergachev have secured 3 points; Crouse with 2 goals and Sergachev with 3 assists. In goal, Connor Ingram boasts a perfect 3-0 record, accompanied by a 3.54 goals-against average and a .874 save percentage this season.

The New Jersey Devils approach this game with the intention of extending their momentum following a 5-3 triumph over Washington in their previous outing. Both Paul Cotter and Stefan Noesen have amassed 5 points, with Cotter achieving a team-leading 4 goals, while Noesen has recorded 1 goal and 4 assists. Additionally, Erik Haula has tallied 4 assists, and Timo Meier, Jesper Bratt, and Johnathan Kovacevic have each secured 3 points; Meier has netted 2 goals and provided 1 assist, whereas Bratt and Kovacevic have each contributed 1 goal and 2 assists. In goal, Jacob Markstrom has a record of 2-1, with a goals-against average of 2.71 and a save percentage of .906, while Jake Allen is 1-0, featuring a goals-against average of 1.00 and a save percentage of .944 for the current season.

The Pick:

The Devils have proven to be competent in their own right, yet they maintain a .500 record since returning from Europe. In light of their recent performance compared to that of their rivals, I am hesitant to endorse the price being proposed. I would choose to support Utah with the positive odds.

Detroit Red Wings vs New York Rangers Prediction NHL Picks 10/14/24

Red Wings at Rangers at 7 PM ET

The Red Wings struggled significantly in their first game of the season against the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, their recent performance against the Nashville Predators indicated a substantial improvement. The defense of the Red Wings was effective, as they did not concede any goals, although they ultimately lost the match 3-0. Three different players contributed to the scoring, with J.T. Compher being the most prominent, scoring one goal and recording four shots on goal. Cam Talbot also had an impressive outing, successfully saving all 42 shots that came his way.

The Rangers commenced their season with a match against the Pittsburgh Penguins, where they showcased a commanding performance. Nevertheless, the Penguins emerged victorious with a total of six goals. In their following encounter against Utah, the Rangers displayed resilience, managing to secure a point by pushing the game into overtime, though they ultimately fell short with a score of 6-5. The Rangers scored three goals in the second period, yet their defense allowed four goals. Adam Fox had a notable performance, recording three assists, while Artemi Panarin contributed with two assists. Igor Shesterkin took his position in goal, saving 20 out of 26 shots.

The Pick:

I’m not sure if we can completely trust the Rangers’ defense, as it was a big issue in the previous game. The Red Wings offensive should be able to score a few goals early in the contest; that will make all the difference. Here, Detroit will prevail and the Rangers’ offense will suffer. So, put your money on the Red Wings to win.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Montreal Canadiens Prediction NHL Picks 10/14/24

Penguins at Canadiens at 7:30 PM ET

After defeating the Red Wings, the Pittsburgh Penguins were defeated by the Maple Leafs. The Pittsburgh Penguins are scoring 22.2 percent of their power play attempts and averaging 2.67 goals per game. With two goals, Anthony Beauvillier leads Pittsburgh, while Evgeni Malkin has four assists and nine shots on goal from Sidney Crosby are the team’s high. The Pittsburgh Penguins are destroying 90% of their opponents’ power plays and giving up 4.33 goals per game on defense. Joel Blomqvist has conceded 6 goals on 64 shots, while Tristan Jarry has let up 6 goals on 40 shots faced.

The Montreal Canadiens defeated the Senators but fell to the Bruins. The Montreal Canadiens are scoring on twenty percent of their power play attempts and are averaging three goals per game. Brendan Gallagher has ten shots on goal, Kaiden Guhle has three assists, and Cole Caufield leads Montreal with four goals. The Montreal Canadiens are preventing 92.3 percent of their opponents’ power plays and giving up 2.33 goals per game on defense. Sam Montembeault has allowed one goal on 73 shots, while Cayden Primeau has given up six goals on 29 shots faced.

The Pick:

The Habs have just finished two straight games with impressive offensive outputs. That means a lot of traveling right out of the gate for the Penguins, who will be playing their third consecutive road game. These encounters are generally close since overtime has been played in four of the last six games between the Penguins and Canadiens. In these kinds of situations, I appreciate having extra cash in my pocket. I’ll take a chance on the Canadiens and the better price because they’re at home and have shown well in their first three games.

New York Islanders vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction NHL Picks 10/14/24

Islanders at Avalanche at 9 PM ET

After losing their most recent game 3-0 against Dallas, the New York Islanders are now 0-1-1 on the season. In this game, New York was unable to score any goals and let up one goal in each period. The Islanders had 17 hits, went 0-1 on the power play, and outshot Dallas 34–27 overall throughout the contest. With four shots on goal each, Horvat and Palmieri led the way for New York, while Varlamov stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced for a.923 save percentage.

The Colorado Avalanche are 0-2-0 so far this season after their most recent game ended in a 6-4 loss to Columbus. Colorado fell behind 3-1 at the beginning of the second period, but they managed to square the score at three before giving up three of the final four goals to lose. In the game, the Avalanche tallied 26 hits, outshot Columbus 30-23 overall, and went 2-4 on the power play. Colorado’s goals came from Colton, MacKinnon, Mittelstadt, and Wood; Georgiev stopped six of nine shots, while Annunen stopped eleven of thirteen.

The Pick:

Although the Avalanche’s defense has been lacking thus far this season, they should be able to turn things around against a New York club that was shut out the previous game. The Islanders’ defense has also been a problem, as they have given up eight goals in their last two games. Since I don’t really trust either side in this game, I’ll go with the Over with two underperforming defensive units.
