The Miami Dolphins and the Chicago Bears meet in week 1 NFL Preseason action from Soldier Field on Sunday. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Miami Dolphins vs. Chicago Bears prediction.

Miami Dolphins Team Preview

The Miami Dolphins are looking to rebound entering the 2025 NFL season after finishing 2024 with an 8–9 record and missing the playoffs. Head coach Mike McDaniel remains at the helm, and Miami spent the offseason reshuffling the roster. In a headline trade, the Dolphins sent star cornerback Jalen Ramsey to Pittsburgh and brought back All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, dramatically remaking a secondary that also now features veteran safety Jordan Poyer and cornerback Kendall Fuller. The defensive front added veteran defensive end Calais Campbell and first-round draft pick Kenneth Grant, who join pass rushers Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb. Offensively, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa – now secured with a four-year, $212.4 million extension – returns as the starter alongside his top weapons, wide receivers Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The backfield has been overhauled: Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. departed, making way for free-agent signing Alexander Mattison and young speedster De’Von Achane. The Dolphins also traded away tight end Jonnu Smith, last season’s receptions leader, leaving questions at that position. Protecting Tagovailoa will be a revamped offensive line after longtime left tackle Terron Armstead retired; second-year tackle Patrick Paul and newcomer guard James Daniels are expected to step up, with rookie guard Jonah Savaiinaea adding competition. With these significant changes, Miami hopes to recapture its 2023 form and contend in the AFC East, leaning on an explosive offense and retooled defense to drive a postseason push.

Chicago Bears Team Preview

After a 5-12 last-place finish in 2024 that saw head coach Matt Eberflus fired midseason, the Chicago Bears enter 2025 under new coach Ben Johnson with a revamped roster. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams endured growing pains but flashed promise last year, and cornerback Jaylon Johnson earned a Pro Bowl nod as a defensive bright spot. General manager Ryan Poles spent the offseason aggressively reshaping the team. Chicago bolstered the offensive line by adding veteran guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson and center Drew Dalman after allowing a league-high 68 sacks last season, while reinforcing the defensive front with former Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett and defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo. The Bears also signed receiver Olamide Zaccheaus to help replace departed wideout Darnell Mooney. In the 2025 NFL Draft, Chicago gave Williams additional playmakers by selecting tight end Colston Loveland in Round 1 and wide receiver Luther Burden III in Round 2, and also added tackle Ozzy Trapilo and defensive lineman Shemar Turner to fortify the trenches. Key returning players include Williams, top receiver DJ Moore and lead running back D’Andre Swift on offense, plus linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson anchoring the defense. With an upgraded line and youthful weapons around their second-year quarterback, the Bears hope to take a step forward under Johnson’s offensive-minded guidance. There is optimism for improvement, but a playoff run appears unlikely – lingering issues like a still-questionable pass rush and overall inexperience suggest 2025 is another building year with minimal expectations.

Miami Dolphins vs. Chicago Bears Prediction

I’m on the Bears in this one. I think the Bears fixed a lot of the problems they had within this team over the course of the offseason and I think the Bears are a much improved team coming into this one. I think at the end of the day, you still have to bank on the team with more depth when betting on the preseason, and for me, that’s the Chicago Bears in this one.

Chris Ruffolo's Pick: Chicago -3
