Back on August 9, the Rams played their first preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. Los Angeles jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead but didn’t score another touchdown until the fourth quarter. When the dust settled LA had a 31-21 win, though. QB Stetson Bennett played the whole game, logging 188 yards on 16-of-24 passing with two scores and a pick. Blake Corum scored twice on the ground from nine carries for 32 yards. Cody Schrader was the leading rusher with 59 yards on five totes, and Xavier Smith caught three balls for 55 yards to top the receivers.

In their second matchup of the exhibition slate, the Rams took on the Los Angeles Chargers. It was pretty tight the whole way, but in the end the Rams eked out a 23-22 win thanks to a 16-13 second-half edge. Bennett played the whole game once again, notching 324 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Jarquez Hunter managed 15 carries for 55 yards, and Brennan Presley had six catches for 102 yards. Smith had another four catches in this one, totaling 49 yards in all.

Over on the Browns’ side, they played their first preseason outing on August 8 on the road versus the Carolina Panthers. Cleveland scored 14 points in the second quarter on the way to a nice win 30-10. The Browns’ Shedeur Sanders went 14-of-23 passing for 138 yards and two touchdowns. Ahmani Marshall carried eight times for a team-high 32 yards, while Sal Cannella had three catches for 32 yards of his own. Kaden Davis caught three balls for 23 yards and a pair of receiving touchdowns.

Over the weekend versus the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland managed another exhibition victory. The Browns scored points in every quarter on the way to a 22-13 result. Dillon Gabriel led the way with 13-of-18 for 143 pass yards and an interception. Tops in rushing was Pierre Strong with 13 totes for 89 yards. Marshall added 25 yards and a score off six carries, and Davis led the receivers on three catches for 44 yards.

Rams vs Browns Prediction

I’m going to stay with Cleveland in this one. The Browns have a couple of pretty nice efforts in the bag over this preseason so far, and even though the games are meaningless in the grand scheme it’s still nice to see the production. In the win over the Eagles, Cleveland posted 331 total yards (199 passing) and went 9-of-16 on third downs. The defense was the real star of the show though, boasting just 88 yards allowed (55 passing), eight first downs and 4-of-12 on third-down tries.

As for the Rams, they’re coming off a nice offensive outing themselves in their win over the Chargers. The Rams totaled 458 yards (324 passing) and 26 first downs in that one, so if we get a repeat performance here we should have a high total. You could probably make a good argument for Los Angeles powering out a cover in this final preseason matchup, but I like the Browns a little better if they can maintain form on the scoreboard.
