The Orlando Magic and the Charlotte Hornets duke it out at the Spectrum Center on Thursday night.

The Orlando Magic have cooled off from their seven-game win streak as they are now hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling short to the Thunder in a 113-108 loss on Tuesday. Paolo Banchero led the team with 32 points, 10 rebounds and five assists on 12 of 21 shooting, Desmond Bane added 16 points while Jalen Suggs chipped in with 14 points, seven rebounds and six assists. As a team, the Magic shot 40 percent from the field and 17 of 50 from the 3-point line as they fought hard to claw their way back from an early 18-point deficit, before the Thunder went on a 9-1 run late in the fourth quarter to shut the door on them. There was just no stopping the Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander who torched them for 40 points on 14 of 27 shooting.

Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in great shape as they’ve won nine of their last 12 games overall and they will be eager to keep it going after blowing past the Heat in a 136-106 win on Tuesday. LaMelo Ball led the team with 30 points and 13 assists on 11 of 22 shooting, Coby White added 24 points off the bench while Kon Knueppel chipped in with 22 points on eight of 13 shooting. As a team, the Hornets shot 53 percent from the field and 17 of 42 from the 3-point line as they battled the Heat in a tightly contested first half to take just a two-point lead at halftime, before they exploded for 40 points in the fourth quarter to run past the shorthanded Heat with ease in the end.

The Magic are still missing Anthony Black, Franz Wagner and Jonathan Isaac, while the Hornets have ruled out Tidjane Salaun for this one. The Magic were on a nice run before they dropped their last two games, but it’s the Hornets who enter this contest as the hotter team, especially following their massive win over the Heat on Tuesday. The Magic beat the Hornets at the start of the season before the Hornets won the last two meetings and both those wins were by double digits. We could be in for a close contest in this one, but with the line so short, I have to stick with the more reliable Hornets to get the job done at home in this spot.
