December 2, 2024 at 07:30 PM EST
The Line: Betting Odds: Boston Celtics -10.5 — Over/Under: 225.5
Miami HeatÂ
The Miami Heat have been in decent shape as they’ve won four of their last six games overall, but they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after falling just short to the Raptors in a 119-116 road defeat last night. Tyler Herro led the team with 31 points on nine of 16 shooting, Jimmy Butler and Terry Rozier scored 17 points each while Bam Adebayo tallied 13 points with 20 rebounds and seven assists. As a team, the Heat shot 44 percent from the field and 15 of 40 from the 3-point line as they slowly worked their way back from an early 14-point deficit, only to see their hard work go to waste in the third quarter where the Raptors poured in 33 points to reclaim the lead for good. The Heat will face the Lakers following this one.
Boston CelticsÂ
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in red-hot form as they’ve won nine of their last 11 games overall, but they will be hoping for a better result in this one after having their seven-game win streak halted by the Cavaliers in a 115-111 road defeat last night. Jayson Tatum led the team with 33 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, Payton Pritchard provided the spark off the bench with 24 points, seven rebounds, and three assists while Kristaps Porzingis chipped in with 21 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. As a team, the Celtics shot just 40 percent from the field and 17 of 49 from the 3-point line as they poured in 35 points in the third quarter to lead by as many as 14 points, only to allow the Cavaliers to explode for 43 points in the fourth quarter to suffer one of their worst defeats of the season. The Celtics will take on the Pistons, Bucks, and Bulls (in a b2b set) after this game.
Why the Boston Celtics will win
- The Celtics have won each of their last 12 home games on the second leg of a back-to-back.
- The Heat have lost seven of their last eight games against Celtics teams that held a winning record.
- The Celtics have covered the spread in seven of their last eight games as favorites on the second leg of a back-to-back.
- The Heat have failed to cover the spread in six of their last seven road games on the second leg of a back-to-back against Eastern Conference opponents.
Total Points Facts
- Eight of the Heat’s last nine night games on the second leg of a back-to-back have gone UNDER the total points line.
- Six of the Celtics’ last seven home games against Southeast Division opponents have gone OVER the total points line.
Miami Heat vs Boston Celtics Prediction
The Heat are still missing Josh Richardson and Nikola Jovic, while the Celtics are still missing Derrick White and they are keeping an eye on Jaylen Brown who is dealing with an illness. The Heat have been playing well enough to win four of their last six games, but they are still far from their best as we saw in last night’s loss to the struggling Raptors. In contrast, the Celtics were arguably the hottest team in the league before they lost a close one to the league-leading Cavaliers last night. I can’t see anything but a win for the Celtics at home as they’ve clearly been the better team all season, but the line is just big enough for me to take the Heat to hang around and keep this to single digits.Â
