The Dallas Mavericks pay a visit to the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center on Tuesday night.

The Dallas Mavericks have been in terrible form as they’ve lost 13 of their last 15 games overall and they will be hoping to arrest a three-game slide after getting routed by the Thunder in a 100-87 loss on Sunday. Caleb Martin led the team in scoring with 18 points on six of 11 shooting, while Brandon Williams and Max Christie each scored 14 points but no other player finished in double figures in scoring. As a team, the Mavericks shot just 39 percent from the field and nine of 31 from the 3-point line as they struggled to contain the Thunder early on and leaked 36 points in the first quarter to fall behind by double digits and the deficit swelled to as many as 22 points in the third quarter, before they finished strong in the fourth quarter to avoid getting completely blown out. Klay Thompson had a quiet game of just seven points before leaving the game with an injury while Khris Middleton shot just two of 10 from the field to finish with just four points.

Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been on fire as they’ve won 14 of their last 17 games overall and they will be gunning for a fifth straight victory after smashing the Trail Blazers in a 109-93 home win on Saturday. Brandon Miller led the team with 26 points, eight rebounds and two assists, Coby White added 20 points off the bench while LaMelo Ball tallied 15 points with eight assists. As a team, the Hornets shot just 42 percent from the field and 16 of 42 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with their defense by holding the Trail Blazers to just 17 points in the first quarter to jump out in front, but the game tightened up and the Hornets didn’t have full control until they exploded for 35 points in the fourth quarter to run away with it in the end.

The Mavericks are still missing a bunch of players with Kyrie Irving, Naji Marshall, Cooper Flagg and Marvin Bagley III all out with Klay Thompson and PJ Washington both questionable, while the Hornets have ruled out Coby White for this one. The line was always going to be hefty for this matchup given how depleted the Mavericks are these days, but it’s still not high enough to sway me from taking one of the hottest teams in the league to get the blowout win at home. The Hornets are on a tear right now and I expect them to cruise past the Mavericks with ease in this spot.
