Strong Start for the Guardians

The Guardians were able to move back above .500 with their victory on Friday, but it didn’t look like they were going to secure the win for most of the game. Through five innings, they were getting shut out, but they scored five runs late, including two in the ninth inning to pick up the victory. Kyle Manzado hit a key home run to get the offense on track. Jakob Junis out of the bullpen really made some clutch pitches, and out of the bullpen was probably the x-factor, going two innings, and not giving up a run. Logan Allen got the start and gave up four runs in the first inning, but he settled down to keep his team in it.

Getting the start for the Guardians in this game is going to be Gavin Williams and he sits with an 8-5 record and an ERA of 3.36. In his last start against the Texas Rangers, he went 3.1 innings giving up three hits and three runs. On Monday, the Guardians start a series against the Boston Red Sox.

Why the Guardians Will beat the Mariners

  • The Guardians have won each of their last seven games against teams that held a winning record.
  • The Mariners have lost each of their last three games as road favorites against American League opponents.
  • The Guardians have covered the run line each of their last seven games against teams that held a winning record.
  • The Mariners have failed to cover the run line in each of their last six games as road favorites against American League opponents.

Mariners Bullpen Blew It

The Mariners bullpen blew it in a big way on Friday, and they have to find a way to figure it out quickly on Saturday. After a really solid start from George Kirby, Matt Brash and Andres Munzo both had their own issues. Munoz managed to pick a whole 0.1 innings and gave up two hits and one run. Jorge Polanco was the top offensive player hitting a home run and driving in two RBIs. Catcher Cal Raleigh also had three walks.

Logan Gilbert is going to get the start for Seattle in this game, and he sits with a 4-5 record and an ERA of 3.69. Two starts against the Philadelphia Phillies he really struggled giving up nine hits and six runs in two innings. In his last start against the Athletics though, he went six innings giving up three hits and one run. On Monday, the Mariners will face off against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Why the Mariners will beat the Guardians

  • The Mariners have won seven of their last eight night games against AL Central opponents following a road loss.
  • The Guardians have lost seven of their last eight games at Progressive Field against teams that held a winning record.
  • The Mariners have covered the run line in six of their last seven night games against the Guardians at Progressive Field following a loss.
  • The Guardians have failed to cover the run line in five of their last six night games against the Mariners at Progressive Field following a win.
  • The Guardians have trailed after 3 innings in six of their last eight games at Progressive Field against opponents that held a winning record.
  • The Guardians have trailed after 5 innings in each of their last seven Saturday night games against AL West opponents that held a winning record.

Mariners vs Guardians Prediction

This total is just too high. Yes Logan Gilbert had his struggles a few games ago, but let’s not act like he hasn’t looked really good this season. In his last start against the A’s he bounced back in a major way. Gavin Williams wasn’t great in his last start, but overall he has been good sitting with an ERA of 3.36, and Seattle’s bats are going to be ice cold. Both pitchers are going to end up going deep in this game, and this one will end up staying right around four five runs. Seven of the Mariners’ last eight road games against American League opponents have gone UNDER the total runs line. Back the under to cash.
