Twins Pitching Struggles Again

The pitching has been a major issue for the Twins, especially since the All-Star break, and it hurt them again on Saturday. The Twins pitching was strong to start the game, but in the 7th inning, it all fell apart when they gave up seven runs. Mick Abel has not been the weapon they thought he would be, and he went one inning, giving up seven hits and five earned runs. Brooks Kriske and Genesis Cabrera both gave up three runs also. This bullpen is filled with players who wouldn’t be on a lot of major league rosters, and it shows. It’s one of the reasons they are so risky to bet on for the full game. Byron Buxton continued his hot season and he hit a home run. He was the only real bright spot with the offense.

Getting the start for the Twins is going to be Joe Ryan, and he sits with a 12-7 record and an ERA of 3.22. In his last start against the Toronto Blue Jays though, he really struggled, going five innings, giving up seven hits and six runs. He gave up two home runs, and he needs to keep the ball in the ballpark here.

Why the Twins Will Beat the Padres

The Twins have won eight of their last nine day games against NL West opponents following a loss.
The Padres have lost each of their last four games against American League opponents following a road win.
The Twins have covered the run line in eight of their last nine day games against NL West opponents following a loss.
The Padres have failed to cover the run line in each of their last four games against AL Central opponents following a win.
The Twins have led after 5 innings in each of their last four home games against opponents that held a winning record.

What an Offensive Breakout for the Padres

It was quite an offensive breakout on Saturday for the Padres as they put up 12 runs on the way to the victory. Catcher Elias Diaz had a strong game, putting up two home runs and driving in three RBIs. On the mound for the Padres was Nick Pivetta and he went five innings giving up five hits and three earned runs. He had six strikeouts and one walk. On Friday, the pitching wasn’t as good and they ended up losing 7-4.

Getting the start for the Padres in this game will be David Morgan, who sits with a 1-2 record and an ERA of 2.95. He is going to be used as the opener in this game. On Friday night, he went 1.1 innings giving up two hits and one run.

Why the Padres will Beat the Twins

The Padres have won each of their last four day games against AL Central opponents that held a losing record.
The Twins have lost six of their last seven home games after playing the previous day.
The Padres have covered the run line in nine of their last 10 day games following a win.
The Twins have failed to cover the run line in six of their last seven home games against National League opponents after playing the previous day.

San Diego Padres vs Minnesota Twins Prediction

There is zero chance I am betting on the Minnesota Twins to win on a full game because of how bad their bullpen is, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t value with them in the first five innings. Did Joe Ryan struggle in his last start? He really did, but let’s look at the full track record, he has been quite impressive all season. He sits with an ERA of 3.22, and the Padres bats are going to be ice cold. San Diego won’t be hitting the ball out of the ballpark, and the Twins will get it done. If you want to be risky and take the full game, I don’t think it’s a smart play, but I understand. Instead, we will take the Twins’ first five innings on the money line.
