The Washington Nationals will take on the Atlanta Braves at Truist Park in a matchup between two teams playing out the final stretch of the season. The Braves enter the game at 74-83, out of the playoff picture but riding a hot streak with nine straight wins, including an 11-5 victory over the Nationals the night before. Washington, at 64-93, has struggled throughout the year and will once again look to spoil Atlanta’s momentum. The pitching matchup features left-hander Andrew Alvarez for the Nationals, who has been solid in limited action with a 2.84 ERA, against Bryce Elder of the Braves, who has had an up-and-down season with an 8-10 record and a 5.36 ERA. Both these pitchers are capable of giving up a run early. The Braves’ bats are on fire, and on the other end, I don’t trust Bryce Elder against this pesky Washington lineup.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs Cincinnati Reds 6:40 PM EST

The Cincinnati Reds will host the Pittsburgh Pirates at Great American Ball Park in a matchup that carries far more weight for Cincinnati than it does for Pittsburgh. The Reds enter the game at 80-76, clinging to hopes of a Wild Card berth, while the Pirates sit at 67-89 and have long been eliminated from playoff contention, now playing the role of spoiler. The pitching matchup is a highlight, with Cincinnati sending Hunter Greene to the mound, who has put together a strong season with a 7-4 record and a 2.74 ERA, while Pittsburgh counters with their young ace, Paul Skenes, who has been impressive with a 10-10 record and an excellent 2.03 ERA. This is the best pitching matchup we have for Wednesday’s slate, and I expect them to have no problem getting out of the first inning.

The Cleveland Guardians will face the Detroit Tigers in a pivotal late-season matchup with major implications in the AL Central race. The Tigers come in at 85-71, holding a slim edge in the standings over the Guardians, who sit at 84-72, making this game a critical swing for both sides as they fight for playoff positioning. Detroit will send Jack Flaherty to the mound, a right-hander who has struggled this season with an 8-14 record and a 4.60 ERA, often giving up too many runs despite his strikeout ability.
