Milwaukee Brewers Betting Preview
The Brewers posted a very nice regular season in 2024 but couldn’t translate that success into playoff wins. Milwaukee was able to repeat as National League Central Division champions, though, ultimately finishing at 93-69 overall and clinching a playoff berth on September 18. The Brewers’ postseason was cut very short, though, as the team fell to the New York Mets in the National League Wild Card Series over three games. It was their second consecutive division championship and also their second consecutive playoffs loss in the Wild Card round.
For Thursday’s opener, the Brewers will send out starting pitcher Freddy Peralta. This spring, Peralta had his ups and downs, notching an 8.56 ERA with a 1-2 record in four starts. He struck out 16 batters in 13.2 total innings. Last year, Peralta managed an 11-9 record with a 3.68 ERA in 32 starts. Over his career, Peralta is 53-36 with a 3.79 ERA in 178 games (129 starts). He’s got 949 career strikeouts over 754.1 innings of work.
New York Yankees Betting Preview
Over on the Yankees’ side, they also looked pretty good during the regular season amid a tough American League East Division. New York finished at 94-68 overall and took first place in the AL East, clinching a postseason berth on September 18. It would be New York’s seventh playoff appearance in the past eight seasons and their third division title in the last six years. The Yankees managed to make it all the way to the World Series, where they were dispatched after just five games by the Dodgers, following their first American League pennant since 2009.
Carlos Rodon will be in the starter role for the Yankees on Thursday. Over the spring, Rodon managed to go 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA in three starts. He posted an even 10 strikeouts in 10.0 innings. Rodon is 75-63 with a 3.85 ERA in 198 career games (193 starts). He managed to log a 16-9 record last year with a 3.96 ERA in 32 starts as well.

Brewers vs Yankees Prediction
I’m going to take a stab at the Brewers. We should have a pretty fun weekend matchup regardless, though. Milwaukee does have a bit of potential shuffling to do in the infield in order to cover holes in the lineup, but (on paper at least) the bullpen looks good. Projections have the Brewers boasting 10 relievers with an ERA below the 4.00 mark, with the potential for some real breakouts during the course of the season. If Milwaukee can make good on those projections in this opener, they’ll be able to tamp down the Yankees' bats and be in a nice spot down the stretch.
As for the Yankees (and their new beards), they lost several key players from last year’s World Series run. New York always seems to land on their feet, however, and with a lineup featuring Aaron Judge, no one is feeling too sorry for the team. The runs need to keep pouring in if the Yankees want a return to a deep playoff run, so we’ll have to wait and see how things shake out. For now, I like the Brewers a little better in this capacity.
