The New York Mets and the San Diego Padres meet Saturday in MLB action from Petco Park. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a New York Mets vs. San Diego Padres prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The New York Mets will start David Peterson here and Peterson is 7-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 64 strikeouts this season. In his career, Peterson is 0-2 with a 4.09 ERA and 13 strikeouts against the Padres. San Diego will start Michael King here and King is 11-6 with a 3.18 ERA and 167 strikeouts this season. This will be King’s second career start against the Mets.
New York Mets Recap
The New York Mets will try to rebound from a 7-0 loss in Friday’s matchup, evening the series up at one win apiece following the loss. The Mets will be trying to win the series to make it back-to-back series wins after knocking off the Baltimore Orioles earlier this week.
Mets Trying To Keep Playoff Hopes Alive
Going into Friday’s action, Pete Alonso has 27 home runs and 70 RBIs with 28 doubles and Francisco Lindor has 33 doubles of his own with 25 home runs and 73 RBIs along with 25 stolen bases. Brandon Nimmo has 72 RBIs and 126 strikeouts while Lindor has a team-high 140 hits and Harrison Bader has 15 stolen bases as well this season.
San Diego Padres Recap
The San Diego Padres will try to keep the ball rolling after a dominant showing in Friday’s matchup. The Padres are looking for a positive result of their own from this series to add on to a series win over the Minnesota Twins from earlier this week.
Padres Trying To Keep Pace With Dodgers In NL West Chase
Entering Friday, Jurickson Profar has 131 hits along with a .290 batting average and 22 doubles with 20 homers and 77 RBIs. Jake Cronenworth has 73 RBIs while Fernando Tatis Jr. has belted 14 home runs, 86 hits, 71 strikeouts and 8 stolen bases as well this season, but is out of the lineup because of injury. Manny Machado has 20 home runs and 73 RBIs but also has 98 strikeouts while Ha-Seong Kim has 94 hits with 3 triples, 16 doubles, 11 home runs, 47 RBIs and a team-high 22 stolen bases.
Mets vs. Padres Prediction
I’m on the Padres here. I know there are two teams in the midst of the playoff hunt in the NL, but I feel a lot more comfortable backing the Padres who have been one of the hottest teams in baseball since the all-star break. Michael King’s also been really good as well in a lot of his recent outings. David Peterson’s won a lot of starts for the Mets, but if the starters were to cancel each other out, the Padres have a distinct edge in the bullpen and I think San Diego picks up a big win here. Give me the Padres.
