The Toronto Blue Jays and the San Francisco Giants meet Thursday in MLB action from Progressive Field. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Toronto Blue Jays vs San Francisco Giants Prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The Toronto Blue Jays will start Kevin Gausman here and Gausman is 6-8 with a 4.64 ERA and 101 strikeouts this season. In his career, Gausman is 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA and 27 strikeouts against San Francisco. Jordan Hicks will get the start for San Francisco and is 4-5 with a 3.47 ERA and 82 strikeouts this season. This will be Hicks’ second career start against the Blue Jays.

Toronto Blue Jays Recap

The Toronto Blue Jays come into this game looking to win the series rubber match after evening the series up at one win apiece thanks to a 10-6 win in Wednesday’s matchup. The win gave the Blue Jays a lifeline for back-to-back series wins after taking out the Mariners last weekend.

Blue Jays Trying To Claw Back Into AL Playoff Chase

Going into Wednesday, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. leads the Blue Jays with 102 hits including 18 doubles, 13 home runs and 52 RBIs along with a .291 batting average and a .366 OBP. Daulton Varsho’s chipped in 11 home runs and 37 RBIs in addition to 15 doubles. Davis Schneider has 15 doubles while George Springer has a team-high 9 stolen bases. Varsho also has a team-high 84 strikeouts and 9 stolen bases as well this season.

Why the Toronto Blue Jays will win

  • The Giants have lost six of their last seven games as favorites against AL East opponents.
  • The Blue Jays have won each of their last seven Thursday games against National League opponents.
  • The Giants have failed to cover the run line in each of their last seven games as favorites against AL East opponents.
  • The Blue Jays have covered the run line in each of their last seven games as road underdogs.

San Francisco Giants Recap

The San Francisco Giants will try to bounce back after a disappointing effort in Wednesday’s matchup against the Blue Jays, trying to avoid back-to-back series losses if they can sneak out a win here. The Giants will meet the Twins and Rockies after this series.

Giants Looking To Get To .500 Before Break

Entering Wednesday’s matchup, Thairo Estrada has 68 hits along with a team-high 9 home runs and 39 RBIs while also chipping in 14 doubles. Michael Conforto has 55 hits with 10 home runs, 14 doubles and 35 RBIs while Matt Chapman has 82 hits of his own alongside 24 doubles with 12 homers, 42 RBIs and 8 stolen bases. Chapman also has the dubious distinction of leading the Giants with 91 strikeouts this season.

Why the San Francisco Giants will win

  • The Giants have won each of their last six day games against AL East opponents that held a losing record.
  • The Blue Jays have lost each of their last five road games against National League opponents following a road win.
  • The Blue Jays have failed to cover the run line each of their last four day games against National League opponents that held a losing record.
  • The Giants have covered the run line in five of their last six day games against AL East opponents following a loss.

Toronto Blue Jays vs San Francisco Giants Prediction

I’m on the under in this one. Gausman’s pitched better on the road for the majority of the season so far and he has a history of pitching well at Oracle from his time with the Giants. On the other side, Jordan Hicks is solid in his own right and the Blue Jays offense and consistency are not two things that necessarily go together. All in all, I’m on the under here.

The pick in this article is the opinion of the writer, not a PickDawgz site consensus.
