The Padres had a good series versus the Oakland Athletics this week. San Diego won all three of those matchups 6-1, 4-3 and 5-4. In the Wednesday finale, the Padres got two homers and three RBI from Donovan Solano. Starter Michael King finished with 5.0 innings, two earned and 12 strikeouts.

In the starting pitcher role for the Friday game the Padres will send out Matt Waldron. This year Waldron is 4-5 with a 3.76 ERA in 13 starts. He’s got 68 Ks in 69.1 innings. Waldron is 5-8 with a 3.98 ERA in 21 games (19 starts) over his career.

Over on the Mets’ side, they took on the Miami Marlins in their last series. New York split the first two games of that set 4-2 (loss) and 10-4 (win). In the rubber match on Thursday the Mets posted a walk-off comeback win 3-2. JD Martinez had two hits; one of them was a two-run walk-off homer.

As starter for Friday’s opener the Mets are sending out Sean Manaea. This year Manaea is 3-3 with a 4.30 ERA and 60 Ks in 60.2 innings over 12 starts. Manaea is 68-59 with a 4.11 ERA in 208 career games (178 starts).

San Diego Padres vs New York Mets Prediction

I’ll stick with the Padres. Waldron is on a nice run these days. Over his last three starts combined Waldron is 2-0 with just two earned runs in 20.1 innings on 11 hits and two walks. As for Manaea, he’s struggled a bit over his last pair with 11 earned runs in 9.1 frames for an 0-2 record.

The Padres are scoring well lately. They managed 15 runs over three games in the A’s sweep, and they’ve hit three or more runs in seven straight games overall. I like San Diego to keep it rolling Friday.
