Delaware State Hornets Betting Preview
The Hornets put up a fairly middling run last season, but they did make a slight improvement over the 2023-24 campaign. Delaware State ended up 16-14 overall with an 8-6 record in MEAC games. That result would put the team in third place among the standings behind Norfolk State and South Carolina State. The Hornets finished off the regular season on a 3-3 run with losses to Norfolk State, South Carolina State and Morgan State. In the first game of the conference tournament, Delaware State took a tough 79-77 loss to North Carolina Central which ended their campaign on March 13.
This year Delaware State will look a lot different, as all five starters will be new in head coach Stan Waterman’s fifth year. The most notable loss is first team all-MEAC selection Martaz Robinson, who notched 1,537 points in his five seasons. Guys like Corey Perkins (4.7 PPG) and Ponce James (4.2 PPG) will be taking more notable roles in Robinson’s absence, so it remains to be seen whether or not the Hornets can continue to improve record-wise this year.
Temple Owls Betting Preview
Over on the Owls’ side, they showed some mild improvement last season as well, but still finished on a middling note record-wise. Temple went 17-15 overall with a .500 run in American Athletic games at 9-9. That would put the Owls around the middle of the pack in the standings, behind Memphis, North Texas UAB, Tulane, FAU and East Carolina. The Owls suffered a six-game losing streak in February but had a three-game winning run going ahead of the AAC Tournament. Unfortunately Temple fell in the first game versus Tulsa 75-71 on March 13.
This season Temple gets head coach Adam Fisher back for his third season at the helm. He’ll lose 10 total players to eligibility and transfer but does retain a pair of starters. Senior Jordan Mason should play a hefty role at guard, and senior AJ Smith comes in after 11.5 PPG at College of Charleston.

Delaware State vs Temple Prediction
I’ll stick with Temple. The Owls have their work cut out for them this season due to some fairly sizable roster reconstruction. That said, Temple looks pretty decent on paper with a solid backcourt. With some increases in production, injury luck and a bit of chemistry, matching or beating last year’s 17-win total isn’t out of the question. The Owls start with a winnable game in the opener, which will go a long way in developing the early-season flow.
As for Delaware State, they’ve got a lot of question marks surrounding the team this year. They’re not blessed with quite as much continuity as they have been in recent seasons, which could very well lead to a step back in the record column. Still, Delaware State does have some depth and versatility on the roster. They’ll need it too; the Hornets have a pretty tricky non-conference schedule ahead including trips to Miami, St. Joseph’s, Rutgers, Syracuse and Temple. It all starts here, and I don’t think the Hornets will quite pull it off cover-wise.
