UNLV Rebels Betting Preview

The Rebels have had their ups and downs already this season. UNLV started out with a shaky 1-2 run over the first three games, beating Hawaii with losses to Memphis and North Texas otherwise. After that UNLV was able to beat Akron and California in consecutive games, giving the team a 3-2 start to the season through the first five games.

In last weekend’s matchup with North Dakota State, the Rebels scored a TD in the first quarter then gave one up in the second for a 7-7 halftime tie. UNLV managed a couple of field goals in the second half and powered out a 13-7 win in the end. QB Jackson Arnold was 8-of-16 for 77 yards and a pick while Jai’Den Thomas had 22 carries for 112 yards in the winning effort.

Air Force Falcons Betting Preview

Over on the Air Force side, they’ve got a few tight games in the books already. The Falcons blew out Duquesne in their opener 34-0 then lost a tough one 38-32 versus North Dakota State. A double-overtime 36-33 victory versus Nevada came next, then a 14-9 win versus rival Navy. Over the first four games Air Force put up a 3-1 record.

Matched up against Northern Illinois on Saturday the Falcons were tied 7-7 early in the game but started to pull away after halftime. Air Force notched two touchdowns in the third quarter during a 28-7 victory in the end. Evan Medders was the leading rusher with 16 totes for 114 yards and two scores. Owen Allen added 13 carries for 100 yards and two TDs.

UNLV vs Air Force Prediction

I’ll probably go with UNLV but it’s a coin flip. The Rebels weren’t overwhelming on offense in their win over North Dakota State, putting up just 16 first downs, 255 total yards and 5-of-15 on third downs. UNLV gave up just 4-of-12 on third downs defensively though, and added three takeaways (all picks). That makes three straight wins for the Rebels with 10 or fewer points allowed in two of them.

As for Air Force, they managed a weird win over Northern Illinois. The Falcons threw a grand total of one pass (an incomplete one) in that game, and relied on their 439 rushing yards to carry the day. Air Force was a blistering 10-of-13 on third downs though, and bagged 26 first downs to complement an excellent defensive effort. This one could go a lot of different ways; should be a fun matchup.

Andrew Jett's Pick: UNLV Rebels -1.5
