Northern Illinois vs San Jose State Prediction
I’ll go with San Jose State but there’s not a lot to get excited about here. The Spartans managed a tepid 238 yards, 15 first downs and 5-of-13 on third downs alongside a couple of interceptions in their loss to a good New Mexico team last weekend. San Jose State gave up 342 yards, 16 first downs and 3-of-10 on third downs defensively alongside three interceptions, so that unit performed pretty well at least. The Spartans are sitting on consecutive losses, but this is a great place to break that trend.
As for NIU, they were at least able to hang around with UNLV for most of the game, racking up 24 first downs and 493 total yards. The Huskies defense surrendered 473 yards and 22 first downs with a pair of interceptions on the other side. Northern Illinois has given up 28 or more points in every game this season so SJSU shouldn’t have issues scoring.

Northern Illinois Huskies Betting Preview
It’s been a pretty dismal year for the Huskies so far. Northern Illinois lost to Iowa in the opener this season, then fell to Arizona State and Arizona in the next two. The Huskies’ woes continued with losses to Georgia State, Air Force, Wyoming and Hawaii across the ensuing quartet of games. Through the first seven outings of the season Northern Illinois had a futile 0-7 record.
In the UNLV matchup last weekend the Huskies gave up two touchdowns in the second quarter and went into the locker room trailing 24-17. Northern Illinois was able to find the end zone in the third quarter themselves, but couldn’t mount a comeback in a 31-24 loss. QB Taron Dickens had a 19-of-37 line for 253 yards, two TDs and a pick. Elijah Porter had 21 carries for 113 yards and George Dimopoulos had seven catches for 127 yards and a touchdown.
San Jose State Spartans Betting Preview
Over on the San Jose State side, they lost to USC in their opener but then came back with wins over Eastern Michigan and Cal Poly in the next pair. San Jose State would then lose to Fresno State, beat Hawaii, lose to Wyoming, beat UTEP and lose to Nevada from there. Across their first eight games of the year, San Jose State managed a .500 record with a 4-4 run in the books.
Matched up against New Mexico on Halloween, the Spartans managed to hang around in the first half thanks to a few field goals and hit halftime with a 14-9 deficit on their hands. San Jose State was shut out on the scoreboard until a fourth-quarter touchdown, which wasn’t enough in a 21-16 loss. QB Luke Weaver was 16-of-23 for 190 yards and two picks. Jabari Bates carried 22 times for 63 yards and Carson Clark caught eight balls for 91 yards in the defeat.
