The Houston Cougars and the Kansas State Wildcats will meet Saturday afternoon in a Big 12 Conference matchup at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kansas. Let’s take a look at this matchup from a betting perspective.

Houston Cougars Betting Preview

The Houston Cougars enter Saturday’s matchup with a 4-1 overall win-loss record (3-0 home record, 1-1 mark on the road), including victories over Oregon State, Southern University, Georgia Southern and the UCF Knights, while losing to Texas Tech.

The Houston offense has been productive through five games played in 2026. The Cougars are averaging 41 points per game while producing 483.2 total yards per contest. Houston has accumulated 253.8 passing yards and 229.4 rushing yards per game.

Shifting our focus to the defensive side of the football, Houston has allowed 19.8 points per game while surrendering 327 total yards per contest. Examining the data just presented more closely, the Cougars defense has been dominant against the run, allowing only 65.4 rushing yards per game.

Through five games played in 2026, quarterback Conner Weigman has compiled 1,186 passing yards and 11 passing touchdowns. Running back Re’Shaun Sanford II has amassed 314 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Talented wide receiver Amare Thomas has been a major contributor in the receiving department, accumulating 27 receptions, 330 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns.

Kansas State Wildcats Betting Preview

The Kansas State Wildcats enter Saturday’s contest with a 3-1 record (3-0 record at home, 0-1 mark on the road) after posting victories over Nicholls State, Washington State and Tulane, while losing to the Cincinnati Bearcats.

The Kansas State offense has been impressive in 2026. Let me be more specific. The Wildcats are averaging 40.5 points per game while generating 480.3 total yards per contest, including 239.5 passing yards and 240.8 rushing yards per game.

Defensively, Kansas State has allowed just 15.3 points per game through four contests this season. The Wildcats have been especially effective against opposing passing attacks, allowing only 106.3 passing yards per game.

Quarterback Avery Johnson has compiled 910 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns, 291 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns. Junior wide receiver Derrick Salley Jr. has emerged as one of Kansas State’s top receiving threats, accumulating 178 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Houston Cougars vs. Kansas State Wildcats Prediction

In my opinion, this matchup favors the Houston Cougars staying within the number (+2.5). Why? Houston enters this contest with one of the most explosive offenses in the Big 12, averaging 41 points per game. Additionally, Cougars signal caller Conner Weigman has been highly efficient through five contests, throwing 11 touchdown passes with just one interception. Just as important, Houston possesses the type of rushing defense that can challenge Kansas State’s greatest strength. The Cougars are allowing only 65.4 rushing yards per game.

While Kansas State owns the home field advantage and one of the nation’s top passing defenses, Houston’s offensive balance and elite third down efficiency should allow the Cougars to remain competitive throughout the contest. With that said, I am backing the Houston Cougars plus the 2.5 points in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Houston Cougars +2.5
