Wofford Terriers Betting Preview
Wofford has been a mixed bag this year, and they’ve been fighting off the .500 mark most of the way. The Terriers opened up the season on a 4-7 run, losing to Lipscomb, Presbyterian, Duke, Milwaukee, Portland State, Elon, and Charleston in that time. a 7-2 run came next, featuring losses to Chattanooga and UNC Greensboro among wins over St. Louis, Kentucky Christian, East Tennessee State, Western Carolina, Furman, Mercer, and the Citadel. Since then it’s been a 2-3 run with wins over UNC Greensboro and Mercer among losses to Samford, VMI, and Chattanooga. That gives the Terriers a 13-12 overall record through 25 games so far.Â
In the Mercer matchup back on Saturday, the Terriers were up by a comfortable 38-27 margin by halftime. Wofford kept the pace from there on a 39-39 run and took the road win 77-66 in the end. Leading the way for the Terriers was Corey Tripp with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. Dillon Bailey added 11 points with four boards and Kyler Filewich had 10 points with seven rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes of work.Â
Citadel Bulldogs Betting Preview
Over on the Citadel side, they opened on a decent run but haven’t had any luck since early December. The Bulldogs beat Erskine, Stetson, North Greenville, St. Andrews, and Toccoa Falls in their first eight games. It’s been a long string of losses since then, however. The Citadel has fallen to Campbell, Central Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Samford, Chattanooga, Furman, East Tennessee State, UNC Greensboro, VMI, Wofford, Western Carolina, Mercer, Samford, UNC Greensboro, and VMI in succession, giving the Bulldogs a rough 5-18 overall record this year.Â
In the VMI game over the weekend, the Bulldogs came out of the break sporting a 10-point deficit. The Citadel didn’t end up getting any closer on a 41-39 run from there and took the loss in the end 82-70. Tops in scoring during the losing effort was Christian Moore with 17 points, nine boards, and four assists with a pair of blocks. John Adams managed to double up with 10 points and 10 boards, while Brody Fox chipped in 14 points and five rebounds.Â
Why the Wofford Terriers will win
- The Citadel has lost each of its last 15 games against the Southern Conference.
- Wofford has won each of its last eight games against The Citadel.
- Wofford has won the first half in each of its last six games at McAlister Field House against non-AP-ranked opponents.
Wofford vs the Citadel PredictionÂ
I’ll lean toward Wofford. The Terriers took care of Mercer in a road matchup over the weekend despite shooting a tepid 40 percent from the field and just 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the line alongside 13 turnovers. Wofford held the Bears to just 39.7 percent shooting and scored 18 points off their 11 turnovers. The Terriers have scored 70 or more points in three straight games now, going 2-1 in that trio of outings.Â
In this year’s first meeting between these teams back on January 22, the Terriers pulled off a 79-68 home win. Wofford shot very well in that one (56.3 percent) and owned the boards with a 40-23 advantage. It wasn’t the cleanest game though, as the Terriers gave up 11 turnovers for 13 Bulldogs points. I’d like to see a single-digit turnover total here, but so long as they shoot fairly well Wofford should have the advantage in this road rematch. Probably avoiding this one in reality, however.Â
