Winthrop Eagles Betting Preview
Winthrop managed to bag only a a .500 record over their first 16 outings this year at 8-8 overall. The losses in that stretch were versus George Mason, Coastal Carolina, Arkansas, Nebraska, Coastal Carolina again, North Dakota, Texas Tech and Longwood. The next 10 games were wins over Gardner-Webb, Charleston Southern, USC Upstate, High Point, UNC Asheville (twice), Radford (twice), Presbyterian and Longwood.
Back on Saturday in their latest outing versus Longwood, the Eagles entered the locker room sitting on a slim lead 38-35. Winthrop kept it going in the second half though, hitting a 41-39 run on the way to a 79-74 victory at home in the end. Tops in scoring was Tommy Kamarad with 15 points, while both Logan Duncomb and Kody Clouet had 14 points apiece and a combined 13 rebounds.
Gardner-Webb Bulldogs Betting Preview
Over on the Bulldogs’ side, they’ve had a rough year. Gardner-Webb could only win two of their first 14 games this season. Since then they’ve taken losses to Tennessee, Charleston Southern, Winthrop, High Point, Radford, Presbyterian, Longwood, UNC Asheville, Longwood and Presbyterian again. Over the first 25 games that gives Gardner-Webb a rough 3-22 record.
In the Presbyterian rematch on the road last Saturday the Bulldogs were exiting the floor after the first half with a slim lead 36-31. Gardner-Webb couldn’t stay on top in the second though, getting outscored 37-26 the rest of the way in an eventual loss 68-62. Leading the way in scoring was Jamias Ferere with 13 points and one rebound in 30 minutes on the floor in the loss.

Winthrop vs Gardner-Webb Prediction
I’ll lean toward Winthrop. Probably not touching this one though. The Eagles didn’t shoot great (38 percent) from the field or from 3-point range (21.4 percent on 6-of-28) in their win over Longwood last weekend, and the 14 turnovers didn’t help. The good news is that Winthrop gave up just 39 percent shooting on the other side in the five-point victory. The Eagles are rolling well on a 10-game win streak, scoring a nice 69 or more points in each of those.
These teams last met up back on January 3 in an 88-77 home win for the Eagles. In that one Winthrop shot pretty well (45.2 percent) and hit 81.3 percent (26-of-32) from the line. The Eagles also had a 44-26 edge on points in the paint and a 46-22 advantage on the boards, but did give up 47.4 percent on defense. I’d like to see that shooting percentage allowed number come down a bit in the rematch.
