Western Michigan Broncos Betting Preview
This year the Broncos have won just three of their eight games over Davenport, Canisius, and Youngstown State. The losses otherwise have come against Coastal Carolina, Butler, SIU Edwardsville, South Dakota, and Dayton.
In the Dayton game back on December 3, the Broncos were up 35-32 going into the break. Western Michigan hit a 45-34 deficit from there in an eventual 77-69 loss. Owen Lobsinger was the top team scorer with 24 points and five rebounds in the defeat.
St. Thomas Tommies Betting Preview
Over on the Tommies’ side, they went on a .500 run through their first eight games. The four losses in that time were to Oklahoma State, Arizona State, Wofford, and Milwaukee. Since then it’s been wins over Chicago State, Northern Colorado, and Montana.
Back on Saturday versus Montana, the Tommies were up by a point at the start of the second half. St. Thomas hit a 48-42 run the rest of the way and won 88-81. Both Nolan Minessale and Kendall Blue led the way with 22 points apiece during the victory. St. Thomas will meet Crown College, Bowling Green, UC Riverside, North Dakota State, and North Dakota after this one.
Why the St. Thomas Tommies will win
- Western Michigan has lost 18 of its last 19 night games against non-conference opponents.
- St. Thomas (MN) has won each of its last eight games at Schoenecker Arena.
- Western Michigan has lost the first half in 11 of its last 13 road games against non-conference opponents.
Western Michigan vs St. Thomas Prediction
I’ll probably lean toward St. Thomas. The Tommies are playing pretty well over their last few games and coming off a nice win over Montana. In that one, St. Thomas put up 50 percent shooting with 32 rebounds and 18 team assists, but did give up 52.5 percent shooting on the other side. The Tommies have at least 87 points in every one of their seven wins so far. High-percentage looks should be a priority here.
As for Western Michigan, they posted a nice 53.7 percent from the field in their latest defeat but couldn’t keep up with a hot-shooting Dayton team. The Broncos have scored a nice 69 or more points in four straight themselves (a 2-2 run), so there’s lots of potential for a high total on Friday.
