Western Kentucky Hilltoppers Betting Preview
Last year the Hilltoppers regressed a bit from the heights of a 22-12 run in 2023-24. Western Kentucky finished a tepid 17-15 overall in the 2024-25 campaign, hitting an 8-10 run in Conference USA games. That effort would put the Hilltoppers ahead of only UTEP, Sam Houston and FIU in the standings. Western Kentucky finished off the regular season on a 3-2 run with wins over LA Tech, UTEP and FIU (with losses otherwise versus New Mexico State and Liberty). In the Conference USA Tournament opener matchup on March 11 versus FIU, Western Kentucky took a three-point loss to finish off their season for good.
In their opener of the 2025-26 season last Monday versus Tennessee Tech, the Hilltoppers went into the locker room sporting a 13-point lead. Western Kentucky slowed down in the second half on a 42-41 deficit but still pulled off the double-digit win 82-70. Leading the charge in the victory were Grant Newell (three rebounds) and Teagan Moore (nine rebounds), each with 16 points. Bryant Selebangue doubled up on 14 points with 10 rebounds in the victory effort as well, and Terrion Murdix had 13 points with six boards in 19 minutes of action.
Eastern Kentucky Colonels Betting Preview
Over on the Colonels’ side, they made a very minor improvement in the win column last year, posting an 18-14 overall run with a 12-6 result in the ASUN games. That would leave Eastern Kentucky behind Lipscomb, North Alabama, Florida Gulf Coast and Jacksonville in the standings for a fifth-place finish. EKU had a nice eight-game win streak going in January and February but then lost two of their last three regular-season outings. In the first game of the ASUN Tournament, the Colonels’ postseason came to an end quickly with a loss to Jacksonville 78-67 on March 3.
This year the Colonels have just one game in the books so far as well. That one came Thursday versus Midway. Eastern Kentucky didn’t have any issues there, posting a 60-18 advantage in the first half on the way to a 122-60 blowout win following a 62-42 second-half run. Jalen Cooper was the team’s leading scorer with 21 points and five boards in just 19 minutes, and MJ Williams had 14 points with six assists. Austin Ball doubled up on 13 points with 13 rebounds during the victory effort as well.

Western Kentucky vs Eastern Kentucky Prediction
I’ll lean toward Eastern Kentucky, but you could probably call this one either way. We haven’t seen much of either team so far, and the Colonels are coming off an opener victory versus an overmatched Midway team. EKU posted 48.8 percent shooting in that one with a 46-27 rebounding edge and 36-18 in their favor in the paint. Midway’s 26 turnovers resulted in 16 Colonels steals, so it was a very one-sided affair all around.
As for WKU, they shot poorly (2-of-11 for 18.2 percent) from 3-point range in their win over Tennessee Tech but otherwise didn’t do too badly. The Hilltoppers slowed down a bit in the second half but still won handily. Game two should be a pretty good matchup.
