Utah Tech Trailblazers Betting Preview
Utah Tech had a very rough start to the season over their first dozen outings, but to their credit, the Trailblazers have looked much better since mid-December. Utah Tech posted a 2-10 overall record in their first 12 games, beating only Bethesda University and Denver among losses to Oregon State, New Mexico State, Wyoming, Utah, Cal State Northridge, Montana, Portland State, Boise State, Utah State, and Weber State. The last five games have been a 4-1 run for the Trailblazers, though. They’ve got one loss to Florida International in that quintet alongside wins over Whittier, South Dakota, Texas Arlington, and Tarleton State for a 6-11 overall run.
Matched up against Tarleton State over the weekend, the Trailblazers came out of halftime looking at a 25-22 deficit on the scoreboard. Utah Tech hit a 36-29 run the rest of the way, however, resulting in a 58-54 victory in the end. Beon Riley led the scoring with 17 points, six boards, and two steals in 38 minutes of action. Also in double-figures was Hakim Byrd with 14 points and four assists. Madiba Owona added five points and one rebound off the bench.
Seattle Redhawks Betting Preview
Over on the Seattle side, they’ve had quite a struggle so far this year, with just one instance of consecutive wins in the books. The Redhawks opened on a 2-5 run with wins over UC San Diego and Northwest University alongside losses to Eastern Washington, Liberty, Cal Poly, Furman, and Duke. A 3-3 run came next with wins over Portland State, Pacific OR, and Washington amid losses to UTEP, UIC, and Washington. Since then it’s been a pair of losses to Nicholls and California Baptist before a victory versus Abilene Christian, resulting in a 6-10 overall record for the Redhawks through the first 16 outings of the season.
In the Abilene Christian game on Saturday, the Redhawks sat in the locker room with a 40-38 deficit. Seattle got better from there on a 28-24 second half and powered out the comeback win 66-64 in the end. Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe managed to double up on 23 points and 11 rebounds as the team’s leading scorer. both Paris Dawson (six rebounds; eight assists; two steals) and John Christofilis (two rebounds) chipped in with 12 points apiece in the win.
Why the Seattle Redhawks will win
- Utah Tech has lost eight of its last nine road games against Conference opponents.
- Seattle has won seven of its last eight night games against Conference opponents at Redhawk Center.
- Seattle has won the first half in 15 of its last 19 night games at Redhawk Center.
Why the Utah Tech Trailblazers will win
- Utah Tech has won each of its last four night games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
Utah Tech vs Seattle Prediction
I’ll stick with Utah Tech. The Trailblazers need a convincing effort here following a spotty performance at home versus a struggling Tarleton State team, though. Utah Tech shot fairly well (43.5 percent) and had 88.2 percent (15-of-17) from the line but also hit just three of 14 attempts from outside (21.4 percent) and got out-rebounded 27-24. The 15 turnovers for 16 Texans points didn’t help matters either. Utah Tech has looked pretty good during this 4-1 run, though. They’ve hit 74 or more points in three of their four wins in that time.
As for Seattle, they’ve been under 70 points in three straight games (a 1-2 run) but do get credit for a comeback win over Abilene Christian in their last outing. I like the Redhawks to set the pace for most of the game, with Utah Tech powering it out in the end.
