Texas-Arlington Mavericks Betting Preview
Back in the 2023-24 season, Texas-Arlington finished with 18 wins and made it all the way to the conference championship game. The Mavericks took a step back last year though, notching a 13-18 overall run. TX-Arlington went just 6-10 in the WAC as well, leaving them ahead of only Southern Utah and Utah Tech in the standings and one game behind Tarleton State. The Mavericks skidded into the postseason on a three-game losing streak (and a 2-6 run in eight games total). In the first matchup of the WAC Tournament, Texas-Arlington fell versus Grand Canyon by 23 points on March 12, ending their season.
Texas-Arlington had a pretty easy matchup this week in their opener, and they took advantage. The Mavs played UNT Dallas and jumped out to a dominant 46-14 advantage by the break. TX-Arlington hit a 45-26 run the rest of the way and ended up winning handily 91-40 by game’s end. Topping the team scorers was Raysean Seamster, who put up 17 points with 15 rebounds. Bahsil Laster added 15 points with four boards and four assists, and both Cash Chavis and Tyran Mason chipped in 12 points apiece with a combined eight assists and 11 boards in the victory effort.
New Mexico Lobos Betting Preview
Over on the Lobos’ side, they were able to improve by one game in their campaign last year. New Mexico ultimately put up a 27-8 overall record with a nice 17-3 result in the Mountain West. That effort would put the Lobos on top of the standings for a regular-season championship. New Mexico entered the conference tourney on a three-game win streak and took out San Jose State in the opener. The Lobos were upset by Boise State in the semifinal, but earned an NCAA Tournament berth anyway. After beating Marquette in the First Round, the Lobos would then fall to Michigan State in the Second Round.
This year the Lobos have a win in their pocket already following a matchup with Texas A&M-Commerce. New Mexico jumped out to a 34-14 halftime edge, then hit a 42-40 run the rest of the way for a 76-54 victory. Tops in scoring were Jake Hall (three rebounds) and Uriah Tenette (five assists). Tajavis Miller added 11 points, and Tomislav Buljan had 15 rebounds with eight points and one assist in the winning effort for the Lobos.

Texas-Arlington vs New Mexico Prediction
I’m just going to stay with the Lobos. New Mexico wasn’t perfect in their win over Texas A&M-Commerce this week, but at least some of that can be attributed to getting minutes for guys down the bench. The Lobos shot just 14-of-23 (60.9 percent) from the line and had 15 turnovers, however otherwise they looked pretty good statistically in the home victory.
As for the Mavs, they went just 2-of-17 (11.8 percent) from 3-point range and had 13 turnovers in their blowout home win over UNT Dallas. None of that mattered much though, considering the Trailblazers shot just 17.5 percent from the floor and 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from outside. Saturday’s game, obviously, will be a much tougher challenge. I don’t think Texas-Arlington will quite get there.
