UNC Asheville Bulldogs Betting Preview
UNC Asheville managed to win eight of their first 18 games of the season. After losses to Presbyterian and Winthrop came a 4-1 stretch with victories USC Upstate, Gardner-Webb, USC Upstate again and Longwood. Following losses to Presbyterian and High Point was a win over Radford, then a win over Gardner-Webb, a loss to Charleston Southern and a tournament win over Longwood.
On Friday versus Longwood, the Bulldogs were up by four points 40-36 going into the second half. UNC Asheville was outscored 37-33 the rest of the way and had to go to overtime. Following a 12-9 run in the extra period, UNC Asheville emerged with a tense 85-82 victory. Leading the scoring was Justin Wright with 28 points, five rebounds and four assists while Kameron Taylor had 26 points.
High Point Panthers Betting Preview
Over on the High Point side, they managed to win 16 of their first 19 games this year for a 16-3 opening record. After a loss to Winthrop, the Panthers have since beaten USC Upstate, Radford, Presbyterian, Longwood, Charleston Southern, Radford, USC Upstate, Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville, Winthrop, Presbyterian and Gardner-Webb for a 28-4 overall run.
In the Gardner-Webb matchup on Friday the Panthers jumped out to a 43-27 advantage by the break. High Point hit a 38-32 run in the second half, finishing off a nice 81-59 victory as the game came to a close. Scotty Washington led the team on his 19 points with two rebounds while Rob Martin added 16 points with four rebounds and three assists in 27 minutes.
UNC Asheville vs High Point Prediction
I’ll likely just stay with High Point. The Panthers rolled right past a struggling Gardner-Webb team on Friday, thanks mostly to a 42-30 rebounding advantage and just 33.9 percent shooting allowed on defense. High Point wasn’t spectacular from the line (15-of-22 for 68.2 percent) and had 11 turnovers, though. The Panthers have won 12 straight games now with 71 or more points scored in all of those.
These teams played twice this year with High Point taking both games. First was an 87-69 road win on New Year’s Eve, then a 74-48 blowout victory February 19 at home. In the home win High Point shot a reasonably tepid 42.9 percent from the field and 20.7 percent (6-of-29) from outside but also had just 31.6 percent shooting allowed on defense. The 42-22 advantage in the paint and the 17 points off 15 Bulldogs turnovers helped as well. I’d like to see that shooting percentage elevate in this tournament rematch.
