Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks Betting Preview

The Warhawks haven’t found much success this year, to put it mildly. LA-Monroe has just one instance of consecutive wins so far, and only seven victories total. The first three came during the Warhawks’ first 10 outings, as they took out Champion Christian, Ecclesia, and Northwestern State. After another win over AR-Pine Bluff, LA-Monroe fell to Texas Arlington, Houston Christian, Old Dominion, Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, Southern Miss, Louisiana, Troy, Louisiana again and App State. Consecutive wins over South Alabama (twice) came next, then a 1-3 stretch that featured a lone win over Southern Miss. The losses otherwise in that time were versus Troy, Georgia State, and Texas State. All in all, LA-Monroe has posted a 7-20 run over their first 27 games of the year. 

In the Southern Miss home rematch on Saturday, the Warhawks came out of the break with a 45-39 deficit. LA-Monroe woke up on a 42-29 run the rest of the way however, pulling off the comeback win 81-74 in the end. Tyreese Watson posted a double-double with 23 points, 10 assists, three rebounds, and three steals. Jalen Bolden led the way however, posting 24 points with seven boards, three assists, and three steals. 

Texas State Bobcats Betting Preview

Over on the Bobcats’ side, they weren’t looking too bad back in January but they’ve fallen on hard times record-wise since then. Texas State opened on an 8-4 run with wins over Eastern Michigan, McMurry, Princeton, Ohio, Texas Southern, Arlington Baptist, Rice, and Georgia Southern in that time. The Bobcats lost to Texas Arlington, Marshall, App State, and Southern Miss in the next five games (with a lone win over Troy) then beat Georgia State, Southern Miss, and Louisiana in the next three. Since then it’s been a 1-6 run with a win over LA-Monroe among losses to Arkansas State, Louisiana, Arkansas State again, Old Dominion, Central Michigan, and South Alabama. That gives the Bobcats a 13-14 overall run through 27 games. 

Matched up against South Alabama on the road Saturday, the Bobcats held a 32-29 halftime advantage. Texas State lost it in the second half though, eventually falling in overtime 70-65. Tylan Pope led the team with his 20 points and 15 rebounds alongside three blocks and two steals for a double-double. Dylan Dawson added 10 points with three rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Tops off the bench was Joshua O’Garro with 11 points and seven rebounds. 

Louisiana-Monroe vs Texas State Prediction 

I’ll lean toward Texas State. The Bobcats didn’t play all that well in their latest loss versus South Alabama, shooting just 33.3 percent from the field with 17 turnovers for 17 Jaguars points. Texas State did a good job on the boards though (50-35). the good news for the Bobcats is that they’re finally getting back home after four straight road matchups. 

Texas State powered out a road win 72-60 when these teams saw each other last Thursday. The Bobcats played pretty well in that one outside of the 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from the line and the 14 turnovers. Texas State needs to watch the ball control in this one but I think they’ll be okay at home.
