Stonehill Skyhawks Betting Preview

The Skyhawks have had quite the up-and-down season, and lately, they’ve fallen back below the .500 mark again. Stonehill kicked things off with a 6-5 run with losses to Notre Dame, Providence, Robert Morris, Lindenwood, and Marquette. It’s been a choppy run of games since then, as the Skyhawks have fallen to Boston College, UMass Lowell, Mercyhurst, Long Island U, Le Moyne, Fairleigh Dickinson, Central Connecticut, Long Island U, Wagner, and Central Connecticut in that time. Overall the result so far has been a 14-15 record through the first 29 games of the Skyhawks’ season.

In the Central Connecticut road rematch on Saturday, the Skyhawks came out of the locker room with a 37-21 deficit. Stonehill didn’t get any closer from there on a 30-20 run and took the blowout, low-scoring loss 67-41. Leading the team in points was Todd Brogna with 11 alongside five rebounds and one steal in 26 minutes of work. The only other team player to finish in double-figures was Chas Stinson with 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Fairleigh Dickinson Knights Betting Preview

Over on the Knights’ side, they’ve had a couple of brief runs of success this year, but overall it’s been a tough campaign. Fairleigh Dickinson opened the season on a 4-11 stretch with wins over only Purchase, Manhattan, Vermont State Randolph, and Lehman College. A 5-2 run came next with wins over Wagner, Le Moyne, Chicago State, Stonehill, and Le Moyne again. Since then it’s been a rough 2-5 run with wins over Wagner and Chicago State among losses to Mercyhurst, Central Connecticut, Long Island U, Mercyhurst, and St. Francis PA. So far through 29 games that gives the Knights an 11-18 overall run on the season.

Matched up against St Francis PA in their road rematch last weekend, the Knights kicked things off with a 36-34 advantage. Fairleigh Dickinson ended up going to overtime and lost 85-80 in the end, however. Terrence Brown led the team with 27 points, five boards, three assists, and two steals. Jo’el Emanuel added 15 points with seven boards and two assists, while Brayden Reynolds chipped in 12 points with six rebounds and four assists.

Why the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights will win

  • Stonehill has lost each of its last seven road night games against Conference opponents.
  • The home team has won seven of Fairleigh Dickinson’s last eight games.
  • Fairleigh Dickinson has won the first half in each of its last four night games at Bogota Savings Bank Center.

Why the Stonehill Skyhawks will win

  • Fairleigh Dickinson has lost each of its last three games.
  • Stonehill has won three of its last four night games.

Stonehill vs Fairleigh Dickinson Prediction

I’ll lean toward Fairleigh Dickinson. Probably not touching this one, though; there’s not a lot to get excited about here. In any case, FDU is coming off a sketchy road loss to St. Francis PA, shooting just 37.5 percent from the field with a 47-33 rebounding deficit. The good news is that the Knights kept their turnovers minimal (six) and did okay from the line (15-of-19). Fairleigh Dickinson had scored a combined 118 points across their previous two games, though.

These teams last saw each other back on January 26 in a 65-54 road win for the Knights. FDU managed 46 percent shooting in that one with 31 rebounds and 10 turnovers for 10 Stonehill points. The Knights opened up on a slow first half though, so I’d like to see a quicker start in the home rematch. All things considered, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this one stay competitive the whole way if Stonehill brings their proverbial A game to the court.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Fairleigh Dickinson Knights -2.5
