Saint Joseph’s Hawks Betting Preview

The Hawks have had a couple of spotty runs this year so far, but overall they’re not doing too badly in the record column. Saint Joseph’s kicked things off on a 6-4 run with losses to Central Connecticut, Texas, Princeton and Charleston, then beat American, Virginia Tech, Delaware State and UMass in the next four. A 3-5 stretch came next however, with losses to Saint Louis, Duquesne, VCU, Dayton and Loyola. Since then it’s been a 5-1 run with a lone loss to George Mason situated among wins over Saint Louis, La Salle, George Washington, Richmond and St. Bonaventure. That gives the Hawks an 18-10 overall run through 28 games so far this year.

In the home match with St. Bonaventure on Wednesday, Saint Joseph’s came out of the gate with a 35-35 first half. The Hawks got better in the second with a 40-29 run and powered out the win in the end 75-64. Topping the scorers was Xzayvier Brown with a double-double on 22 points, 10 boards and three assists. Rasheer Fleming added 19 points with six boards, while Derek Simpson came off the bench for 11 points and four assists in 28 minutes.

Fordham Rams Betting Preview

Over on the Fordham side, they’ve struggled this year with only a couple of good runs in the books. The Rams kicked things off on a rough 3-5 stretch, but then beat New Hampshire, Fairleigh Dickinson, Maine, Bryant and Albany in the next five. After a losing streak versus Saint Louis, St. Bonaventure, VCU, Davidson, UMass and Loyola, the Rams won three of four versus Duquesne, La Salle and Rhode Island. Since then it’s been losses to Dayton, Richmond, Duquesne, Davidson and George Mason in succession. That gives the Rams an 11-17 overall run through their first 28 games this year.

Matched up against George Mason in their Wednesday outing, the Rams came out of the locker room with a 32-24 deficit. Fordham didn’t gain any ground on a 42-40 run the rest of the way and took the loss in the end 74-64. Japhet Medor put up 22 points with four assists and three steals, while Jackie Johnson added 13 points with one rebound and one assist. Abdou Tsimbila chipped in eight points with 10 rebounds and three blocks as well.

Saint Joseph’s vs Fordham Prediction

I’ll stick with the Hawks. Saint Joseph’s put away a pretty decent Bonnies team in their last outing, hitting 47.5 percent from the field with a 41-31 rebounding edge and just nine turnovers. The Hawks posted just nine turnovers along the way, but didn’t fare well from the line on 8-of-16 (50 percent). Still, that makes three straight wins for Saint Joseph’s, with 75 or more points scored in each outing. If the Hawks can reach that threshold again on Saturday they’ll be in great shape.

As for Fordham, they shot just 33.9 percent from the field in their latest loss to George Mason alongside 16 turnovers for 21 Patriots points and a 42-36 rebounding deficit. The Rams have lost five straight and have been below 70 points in four straight. I don’t think they’ll keep a cover pace on the Hawks here.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Saint Joseph's Hawks -7.5
