Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles Betting Preview
The Eagles didn’t start off the year too badly, but they’re still shaking off a losing streak in December/January that lasted nearly a month. Southern Indiana took out Tennessee State, Shawnee State, East-West, Indiana State, South Dakota, and Bellarmine during a 6-5 opening, otherwise falling to DePaul, Bucknell, Marshall, Fort Wayne, and Southern Illinois. The next five games were all losses, as the Screaming Eagles fell versus Tennessee Martin, Morehead State, Tennessee Tech, Southeast Missouri State, and Little Rock. Since then it’s been a pair of wins over Lindenwood and Western Illinois, giving Southern Indiana an 8-10 overall record so far.
In the Western Illinois matchup over the weekend, the Eagles held a 39-32 edge by halftime. Southern Indiana kept it going in the second on a 39-34 run and took the victory 78-66 in the end. Tops in scoring was Damoni Harrison with 26 points, six rebounds, and two assists. Jack Mielke added 17 points with 11 rebounds and three blocks, while Jayland Randall had 12 points with two rebounds and one assist.
SIU Edwardsville Cougars Betting Preview
Over on the Cougars’ side, they’ve been a pretty consistent team so far this year. SIU Edwardsville has only suffered consecutive losses twice. The first was among the opening three games versus Indiana and Illinois. A 6-2 stretch commenced after that with wins over Indiana State, Western Michigan, Canisius, St. Ambrose, Ball State, and Eureka (with losses to Green Bay and North Florida mixed in). The Cougars would then fall to Little Rock and Southeast Missouri State in the next pair before taking out Western Illinois, Lindenwood, Eastern Illinois, Tennessee Tech, and Tennessee State. Their last game was a loss to Tennessee Martin, though, giving SIU Edwardsville a 12-7 overall run through 19 games this year.
In the Tennessee-Martin matchup on Saturday, the Cougars faced a three-point deficit in the locker room. SIU Edwardsville didn’t end up getting any closer on a 46-46 second half and took the defeat 85-82. Ray’Sean Taylor was the leading team scorer with 23 points, five rebounds and two steals. Brian Taylor had 19 points with five assists and three rebounds, while Ring Malith added 14 points with four rebounds and three assists.

- Southern Indiana has lost the first half in seven of its last eight road games.
Southern Indiana vs SIU Edwardsville Prediction
I’ll lean toward SIU Edwardsville. The Cougars do need a solid effort here after a tepid loss to a middling TN-Martin squad, though. SIU Edwardsville posted a nice 53.5 percent shooting in that one but also gave up 54.9 percent on the other side and had 14 turnovers for 20 Skyhawks points. The Cougars had a stretch of three straight games with fewer than 68 points earlier this month, but they’ve since notched 169 in the past two—spurred in part by a double-overtime game against Tennessee State, that is.
As for Southern Indiana, they shot quite well (50.9 percent) in their latest win over Western Illinois. The Eagles have scored well themselves over the last pair (158 combined points) so this one’s looking like a pretty hefty total if all goes according to plan on both sides. In the end, I like SIUE a little better, though.
