Seattle Redhawks Betting Preview

The Redhawks haven’t had much luck at all this season. Seattle has just two instances of consecutive wins, one of them coming early in the year versus Northwest University and UC San Diego following a 0-3 start. The Redhawks went 3-7 in their next 10 games, falling versus Furman, Duke, UTEP, Western Kentucky, UIC, Nicholls, and Cal Baptist with wins over Portland State, Pacific OR, and Washington otherwise. Following three wins over Abilene Christian, Utah Tech, and Southern Utah in their next trio, Seattle has since fallen to Texas Arlington and Utah Valley in their last pair. That gives the Redhawks an 8-12 overall record through 20 games.

In the Utah Valley game on Saturday, the Redhawks posted a 29-29 tie in the first half. Seattle was outscored 41-37 the rest of the way, however, resulting in a 70-66 loss in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe with his double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Paris Dawson added 11 points with two steals, while both Maleek Arington and John Christofilis chipped in with 10 points apiece.

Grand Canyon Antelopes Betting Preview

Over on the Grand Canyon side, they came out of the gate with a somewhat spotty run themselves, however, it’s been pretty smooth sailing since mid-December or so. The Antelopes went 6-4 over their first 10 games, beating Cal State Fullerton, Western Kentucky, Norfolk State, Stanford, Hawaii, and Life Pacific with losses to Arizona State, UC Davis, Georgia, and LA Tech. Since then it’s been a 9-1 run with a lone loss to Utah Valley in that time. Otherwise, the Lopes have taken care of Chicago State, Saint Louis, San Diego, Bryant, Southern Utah, Abilene Christian, Tarleton State, Southern Utah again, and Utah Tech. The result so far has been a solid 15-5 overall run through 20 games for the Antelopes.

Matched up against Utah Tech in their Saturday outing, the Lopes put up a 34-21 run in the first half. Grand Canyon finished off the game with a 45-45 stretch, eventually taking the victory 79-66 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was JaKobe Coles with 18 points and eight rebounds. Ray Harrison added 13 points with two rebounds, and Duke Brennan had 12 points with 12 rebounds in 30 minutes of work on the floor.

Why the Grand Canyon Antelopes will win

  • Grand Canyon has won each of its last 13 night games against the Western Athletic Conference at Global Credit Union Arena at GCU.
  • Seattle has lost six of its last seven night games at Global Credit Union Arena at GCU.
  • Seattle has lost the first half in five of its last six games at Global Credit Union Arena at GCU against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Seattle vs Grand Canyon Prediction

I’ll stay with Grand Canyon. The Antelopes took care of a struggling Utah Tech team pretty well in their last outing, shooting a nice 58.3 percent from the field. Grand Canyon got a little careless with the turnovers (14) but otherwise, it was a nice effort—outside of the 17-5 deficit on the offensive glass, anyway. During this current 9-1 run, the Antelopes have scored 68 or more points in every win, with 73 or more in eight of those.

As for Seattle, they were outmuscled on the boards 39-29 in their last outing versus Utah Valley and shot just 14-of-22 (63.6 percent) from the field. The Redhawks have managed 122 combined points in their last two games so it’s tough imagining them keeping pace with the Lopes if Grand Canyon plays to their capabilities.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Grand Canyon Antelopes -9.5
