South Carolina State Bulldogs Betting Preview

The Bulldogs have had quite a struggle for most of the year. They’ve got just two instances of consecutive wins so far, but to be fair they’re not doing too badly over the last four games. In any case, South Carolina State hit a 4-3 stretch to open the year, taking care of Morris College, Voorhees, Alabama A&M, and IUPUI with losses otherwise versus South Carolina, Jacksonville, and Bethune-Cookman. A 2-6 stretch came next with losses to Marshall, Xavier, Samford, Furman, Northern Kentucky, and Georgia in that time. The last quartet of outings has been a much-improved 3-1 run, though. South Carolina State has a lone loss to Delaware State in that time amid wins over Morgan State, Coppin State, and Maryland Eastern Shore, resulting in a 9-10 overall record through the first 19 games of the season so far.

In the MD Eastern Shore matchup on Monday, the Bulldogs came out of the locker room with a 28-27 edge. South Carolina State got better from there, riding a 50-37 run to a 78-64 victory in the end. Davion Everett paced the team with 21 points, eight boards, and four assists off the bench. The leading starter was Omar Croskey, who posted 14 points with three boards.

North Carolina Central Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the North Carolina Central side, they’ve experienced a similarly choppy season but they’ve got a couple of decent stretches in the books. The Eagles opened on a rough 1-6 run though, falling to George Mason, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Georgia Southern, Winthrop, and Georgia State with a lone win over William & Mary. NC Central would then go 5-2 over the next seven, taking out Carolina U, Virginia Lynchburg, Gardner-Webb, Longwood, and Mid-Atlantic Christian. Since then it’s been a 3-4 stretch for the Eagles. The wins have come courtesy of St. Andrews, MD Eastern Shore and Delaware State. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Longwood, North Carolina A&T, Coppin State, and Morgan State for a 9-12 overall run so far this year.

Matched up against Delaware State in their Monday outing, the Eagles went into the second half with a 33-31 edge. North Carolina Central kept the pace on a 42-41 run from there and powered out the win 75-72 in the end. Isaac Parson was the leading scorer with 19 bench points and a pair of rebounds. Tops among starters was Keishon Porter with his 18 points, nine boards, three assists and one steal in 36 minutes of work on the floor.

Why the North Carolina Central Eagles will win

  • North Carolina Central has won each of its last 10 home day games against the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
  • South Carolina State has lost five of its last six day games.

Why the South Carolina State Bulldogs will win

  • South Carolina State has won five of its last six road games against Conference opponents.

South Carolina State vs North Carolina Central Prediction

I’ll probably lean toward South Carolina State. The Bulldogs dispatched MD Eastern Shore pretty easily in their last outing, hitting 46.9 percent from the field with 36 rebounds. The 3-point shooting was awful though (2-of-16) and SC State coughed up 12 turnovers. It’s been a good scoring run for the Bulldogs lately. They’ve hit 72 or more points in five straight games—a 3-2 stretch. NC Central has scored 75 or more in three straight themselves, so we could have a high-scoring finish here. All things considered, though I like SC State better.

Andrew Jett's Pick: South Carolina State Bulldogs +1.5
