Rice vs Stanford Prediction

I’ll stick with Stanford I suppose, but it’s a coin flip. The Cardinal were able to put up a nine-point win over Eastern Washington in their opening game, shooting a nice 55 percent from the field and 76 percent (13-of-17) from the line. Stanford did get out-rebounded 32-26 however, and fell behind by 13 at one point. As for game two, the Cardinal recorded another victory over Oakland by a more comfortable 18 points. Stanford had the rebounding edge this time 36-29 and shot 47 percent from the field. The defense gave up a pretty solid 45 percent shooting to the Grizzlies, but also benefitted from Oakland’s ugly 3-of-17 (18 percent) from 3-point range.

As for Rice, they put up a 45-point blowout win over Dallas Christian in their opener last week. The Owls shot 45 percent from the field in that one with a 58-34 rebounding edge and allowed just 31 percent shooting from the floor on defense. It wasn’t perfect though, as Rice put up 14 turnovers and missed a few free throws (67 percent on 12-of-18). Still a great effort versus an overmatched team, though. Game two was a close one-point loss versus the visiting East Texas A&M. In that one Rice shot just 36 percent and got outmuscled on the boards 54-41. The defense was good again though, as the Owls allowed only 36 percent shooting on the other side. Stanford has been scoring pretty well in their two games so Rice will want to keep the defensive screws tight in this one.

In game two versus East Texas A&M on November 5, the Owls took a close loss 72-71. Topping the team this time was Jaxson Thompson with 14 points, three rebounds and two assists. Jacob Dar added 13 points with seven boards, but went an ugly 1-of-10 from 3-point range in the losing effort.
