North Florida Ospreys Betting Preview

The Ospreys got off to a decent start this season, however, they’ve had lots of trouble trying to get back above .500 lately. North Florida kicked things off with a 7-4 stretch, featuring losses to Georgia, UNC Asheville, Nebraska, and Georgia Southern among wins over South Carolina, Charleston Southern, Georgia Tech, Edward Winters, SIU Edwardsville, Warner U, and UNC Greensboro otherwise. Following a losing streak versus UNC Asheville, Florida, Austin Peay, Lipscomb and Eastern Kentucky, North Florida beat Bellarmine and Central Arkansas before another loss to North Alabama. That would leave the Ospreys at 9-10 through 19 games.

In the Thursday matchup versus Queens, the Ospreys held a 43-36 edge going into the second half. North Florida kept it up from there on a 47-45 run and secured the road win 90-81 in the end to get back to .500 on the season overall. North Florida’s Josh Harris set the pace with 31 points, nine boards, and two assists. Jasai Miles added 17 points with 13 rebounds, and Jaylen Smith also doubled up with 13 points and 10 assists in 33 minutes of work.

West Georgia Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Eagles’ side, they haven’t had much luck this year—to say the least. The wins have been few and far between as West Georgia lingers far below the .500 mark so far. A losing streak began the Eagles’ season as they fell versus Mississippi State, Georgia Tech, Tennessee Tech, South Florida, Troy, Georgia Southern, Utah Valley, North Dakota State, Samford, and Mercer for a 0-10 start. The Eagles would beat Tennessee Tech and Brewton-Parker in their next three (with a loss to Charlotte, then hit a 1-5 stretch. The lone win in that time was over Austin Peay. Otherwise, it was losses to Florida Gulf Coast, Stetson, Lipscomb, Florida Gulf Coast again, and Stetson again for a rough 3-16 overall record through 19 games.

Matched up against Jacksonville on Thursday, the Eagles hit the loss column once again. West Georgia was outpaced 45-34 in the first half and didn’t end up getting any closer during a 34-28 second for a 79-62 defeat. Tamaury Releford notched 18 points with nine rebounds in 22 minutes off the bench as the team’s leading scorer. Shelton Williams-Dryden led the starters with 14 points, three steals, and four rebounds in 26 minutes of work.

Why the West Georgia Wolves will win

  • North Florida has lost each of its last six day games against Conference opponents.
  • West Georgia has won the first half in four of its last five day games.

Why the North Florida Ospreys will win

  • West Georgia has lost each of its last four games against the ASUN Conference.
  • The road team has won three of North Florida’s last four games.
  • West Georgia has lost the first half in each of its last three games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

North Florida vs West Georgia Prediction

I’ll stick with North Florida. The Ospreys posted a solid road win over a decent Queens team in their last outing on Thursday. North Florida shot a nice 47.9 percent from the field with just five turnovers in that one, but there’s plenty to clean up. The Ospreys shot just 14-of-23 (60.9 percent) from the line and got out-rebounded 43-32 along the way. Still, it was the Ospreys’ third win in four games, with 90 or more points scored in all three of those victories.

As for West Georgia, they’ve given up 79 or more points in each of the last four games (all losses) with 82 or more in three of them. North Florida should have plenty of room to score here, but I’d like to see a better finish on the boards this time.

Andrew Jett's Pick: North Florida Ospreys -7.5
