Nicholls Colonels Betting Preview

The Colonels got off to a rough start this year with losses to New Mexico, South Alabama, Cincinnati, and Towson in their first six outings. Nicholls would then beat Mississippi College, Louisiana, SE Louisiana, New Orleans, and Southern-New Orleans over the next five, though.

Back on December 18 versus Gonzaga, the Colonels fell back into the loss column. Nicholls was down 43-29 by halftime and didn’t get any closer in a 102-72 blowout defeat. Leading team scorer Byron Ireland finished with 16 points and six assists along the way.

Over on the Seattle side, they lost to Eastern Washington, Liberty, Cal Poly, Furman, and Duke over their first seven games. The Redhawks are 3-3 since then with losses to UTEP, Western Kentucky, and UIC in that time.

In last Monday’s game versus Washington, the Redhawks were sitting pretty on a 38-23 halftime edge. Seattle was outscored by six from there but held on for the win 79-70. Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe led the way with his 23 points and 16 rebounds.

I’m just going to stay with Seattle. The Redhawks posted a nice win over Washington in their last appearance despite shooting just 41.1 percent from the field and 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from outside. Seattle had a strong showing at the line (29-of-32 for 90.6 percent) and held a 36-33 rebounding edge. It was a much-needed win after giving up 165 combined points during losses in the two previous games.

As for Nicholls, they weren’t able to hang around with Gonzaga for long in their last outing and took the blowout loss like most people thought they would. The Colonels had been on a nice run prior to that, however, with 73 or more points in four of five wins. Seattle should match up pretty well on Monday and give Nicholls a nice challenge. It’ll be a fun one to watch, but in the end, I like the Redhawks to take it.
