New Orleans Privateers Betting Preview
The Privateers were only able to win two of their first nine games, taking out TCU and Tulane. A 3-3 run came next with losses to Houston, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Northwestern State, then a 2-2 run. The wins in that quartet came versus SE Louisiana and Lamar, while the losses were courtesy of Nicholls and Stephen F. Austin. Through the first 19 games that would give the Privateers a 7-12 record.
On Saturday versus McNeese, New Orleans was in trouble at the break with a 42-34 deficit. The Privateers didn’t end up getting any closer than that, hitting a 40-29 run the rest of the way in an 82-63 loss on the road. Coleton Benson was the team’s top performer with 23 points, two rebounds and two assists. TJ Cope added 12 points with four rebounds and three assists as well.
Nicholls State Colonels Betting Preview
Over on the Nicholls side, they hit the skids in their first seven games with a string of losses. The Colonels would finally get wins in their next three outings before falling to Pacific on December 21. Nicholls would beat Texas A&M-CC, UTRGV, East Texas A&M, Northwestern State and New Orleans before losses to McNeese, Lamar and Stephen F. Austin, giving the team an 8-11 run through the first 19 games.
Matched up against SE Louisiana last weekend, the Colonels were up 32-28 at the half and looking pretty good. Nicholls lost the handle from there though, getting outscored 39-29 the rest of the way toward a 67-61 loss on the road. Sincere Malone was the team’s top scorer on 19 points with four boards, and Jalik Dunkley doubled up on 14 points with 10 rebounds in the losing effort.

New Orleans vs Nicholls State Prediction
I’ll take a stab on the Privateers, but in reality I’m probably staying away. New Orleans got beaten over the weekend in a tough matchup on the road versus a good McNeese team. The Privateers shot well from the field (45.5 percent) but got out-rebounded 37-28 and had a 38-24 deficit on points in the paint. The real problem however, was the 21 turnovers. New Orleans is 3-3 over the last six games and they haven’t won consecutive outings all season.
These teams last saw each other recently, in a 90-77 home loss for the Privateers on January 10. In that one New Orleans shot pretty well on 46.2 percent from the field and hit 87.5 percent (21-of-24) from the line. The Privateers also had a 31-20 rebounding advantage and 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from 3-point range. Trouble was, New Orleans also had 14 turnovers and gave up 50 percent shooting on defense. They’ll need to be much sharper in the road rematch.
