We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best New Haven vs Long Island U pick. We will examine the recent form and player performances for both teams, as well as the recent betting trends and streaks pertaining to this matchup. As we conclude, we will tie it all together with a summary that produces a sensible pick for a favorable betting outcome in this game.
New Haven Chargers Betting Preview
New Haven lost their first three games of the year, then hit a nice 5-1 stretch featuring only a loss to Seton Hall. The Chargers would then hit the skids in a 1-6 run with a lone win over Stonehill. Since then it’s been a 4-2 stretch with wins over Fairleigh Dickinson, Wagner, Chicago State and Saint Francis. That gives the Chargers a 10-12 overall record in the books this year.
Back on Saturday versus Saint Francis the Chargers entered the second half with a 41-37 advantage. New Haven kept it going on a 40-32 run the rest of the way and powered out the victory on the road in the end 81-69. Kheni Briggs put up 29 points with two assists while Jabri Fitzpatrick added 19 points with six rebounds and two assists in the winning effort for New Haven.
Long Island University Sharks Betting Preview
Over on the LIU side, they managed a tepid 6-4 record over their first 10 games. Next came a losing streak versus Mississippi State, FIU and Georgia, then wins over Central Connecticut, Chicago State, Mercyhurst, Saint Francis, FDU, Stonehill, Le Moyne and Central Connecticut in the next nine outings. Over the first 22 games of the season the Sharks are sitting at 14-8 overall.
Over the weekend in the Central Connecticut rematch the Sharks held a slim 37-36 advantage by the break. Long Island U rolled in the second half on a 43-23 run and took the eventual win in the end 80-59, though. Mason Porter-Brown was tops on the team with 29 points and three rebounds while Jamal Fuller had 23 points with six assists and four rebounds in the winning effort.
New Haven Chargers @ LIU Sharks Betting Trends: February 5, 2026
Why the LIU Sharks will win
- LIU has won each of its last eight night games against the Northeast Conference.
- New Haven has lost the first half in four of its last five road games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
New Haven vs LIU Prediction
I’ll stick with Long Island U, but this should be a pretty fun matchup nonetheless. The Sharks had a great second half in their road win over Central Connecticut last weekend, hitting 50 percent from the field with a 34-24 rebounding edge and just nine turnovers along the way. LIU held the Blue Devils to just 32.2 percent shooting on defense as well. The Sharks have won eight of their last nine games and they’ve got a combined 163 points over their last pair.
As for New Haven, they didn’t have too many issues with St. Francis last weekend thanks to 52.1 percent shooting and 50 percent (10-of-20) from outside. The Chargers are 4-2 in their last six games but they’ve been below 66 points in four of those matchups. New Haven will want to keep the score low here.
