Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview

The Nebraska Cornhuskers enter Tuesday night’s matchup with a 25–4 overall win-loss record, including a 14–4 mark in conference play and a rather impressive 7-2 record on the road. The Cornhuskers have compiled wins over Rutgers, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Illinois, Northwestern and the Pittsburgh Panthers, while dropping games to Michigan and the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Earlier this season, in the Nebraska Cornhuskers thrilling 72-69 victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes, Nebraska forward Rienk Mast amassed 12 points (5 of 13 shooting from the field), 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 block showcasing his ability to lead the Cornhuskers frontcourt.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers average 78.6 points on 46.8 percent shooting from the field (64th in country) and 35.7 percent shooting from beyond the arc per game. Defensively, the Cornhuskers are allowing opponents 65.4 points per contest which ranks 12th in the country.

Senior forward Rienk Mast leads the Nebraska Cornhuskers averaging 13.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 0.5 steals per game. Junior forward Pryce Sandfort averages 18.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.1 steals per contest, while freshman forward Braden Frager provides frontcourt depth contributing 12.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1 assist per game.

UCLA Bruins Betting Preview

The UCLA Bruins enter Tuesday’s contest with a 19–10 overall record, including an 11–7 mark in conference play and a dominant 16–1 record at home.  The Bruins have amassed wins over Illinois, USC, Washington, Rutgers and the Oregon Ducks, while losing recent games to Minnesota, Michigan State and the Michigan Wolverines.

More recently, in the UCLA Bruins 81-62 win over the USC Trojans six days ago, UCLA guard Donovan Dent amassed 30 points (10 of 16 from the field: 5 of 6 shooting from beyond the arc), 2 rebounds and 8 assists demonstrating his ability to lead the Bruins offense.

The UCLA Bruins average 77.8 points on 46.9 percent shooting from the field and 37.9 percent shooting from three-point range per game. Shifting our attention to the defensive side of the basketball, the Bruins are allowing opponents 71.7 points per contest.

Senior forward Tyler Bilodeau leads the UCLA Bruins frontcourt averaging 18.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1 assist and 0.5 blocks per game.

Why the Nebraska Cornhuskers will win

• Ability to win on the road. The Nebraska Cornhuskers have compiled a 7-2 record on the road this season.

• Elite defense. The Cornhuskers are allowing opponents 65.4 points per contest which ranks 12th in the country.

• Balanced scoring. Rienk Mast, Pryce Sandfort, and Braden Frager are averaging over 12 points per game.

• Frontcourt play. Senior forward Rienk Mast leads the Nebraska Cornhuskers averaging 13.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 0.5 steals per game.

Why the UCLA Bruins will win

• Home court advantage. The UCLA Bruins have amassed a 16–1 record at home this season.

• Quality scoring. Tyler Bilodeau leads the Bruins with 18.4 points per game on 51.7 percent shooting from the field.

• Momentum. The UCLA Bruins have won two of the team’s last three games played this season.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs. UCLA Bruins Prediction

Nebraska’s efficient shooting and elite defense give the Cornhuskers a legitimate path to controlling this matchup, but UCLA’s dominant 16–1 home record makes the Bruins a difficult opponent. With that said, Nebraska’s defensive consistency and overall team balance give the Cornhuskers the clearer path to covering the number (1.5) in this one. For the reasons just noted, I am backing the Nebraska Cornhuskers to cover the 1.5 points in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Nebraska -1.5
