Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Betting Preview
The Delta Devils opened their season versus UAB last Monday and things didn’t go very well. Mississippi Valley State was down 59-22 by the end of the first half and closed on a 47-33 run for a 106-55 loss. Leading team scorer Michael James put up 25 points with three boards and two assists in the defeat. In game two versus MUW, the Delta Devils got their first win, taking it 97-61 at home. Matched up against Murray State on Friday for game three however, Mississippi Valley State fell back into the loss column. The Devils were down by 24 points at the half and gave up 67 more from there in a 108-60 outcome. Daniel Mayfield led the way this time with 17 points and seven boards, while Michael James added 14 points with six rebounds and two assists. Patrick Punch chipped in 11 points and two boards in the loss as well.
In Wednesday’s matchup versus Hawaii, the Delta Devils were blitzed 49-23 in the first half. Things didn’t get any better from there on a 39-33 deficit and MS Valley State lost big 88-56. Leading the team in the defeat was Michael James with 11 points and three assists. Patrick Punch was the only other team player in double-digits with 10 points in 24 minutes of work.

Over on the Utah Tech side, they opened up the season with a big overtime road win 81-79 versus South Dakota. The Trailblazers were led by Chance Trujillo in that one with 17 points, 12 rebounds and five assists for a double-double. Tanner Davis added 17 points in 30 minutes as well. In game two Utah Tech played Bethesda, scoring 59 points in the second half on the way to a 110-65 blowout win. Ethan Potter topped the team this time, notching 23 points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes of work. The Trailblazers lost to Arizona last Friday, falling behind 44-37 in the first half on the way to a 93-67 defeat. Ethan Potter scored 15 points with six rebounds in that one. In game four versus Arizona State, the Trailblazers lost again, this time 81-66. Chance Trujillo led that one with 15 points and six rebounds in 35 minutes during the losing effort.
Matched up against Manhattan on Wednesday the Trailblazers held a slim two-point edge going into the second half. Utah Tech was outscored 45-39 the rest of the way however, leading to a 79-75 loss in the end. Tops in scoring was Ethan Potter with 20 points and 11 rebounds over 29 minutes. Chance Trujillo added 15 points with three rebounds and Tanner Davis had 11 points with one rebound and one assist in 30 minutes of work.

I’ll likely just stay with Utah Tech. The Trailblazers were fairly competitive with Manhattan in their last outing, but gave up 50 percent shooting from the field to the Jaspers. Utah Tech shot 42.6 percent themselves with a slim 34-33 rebounding edge and a tie 36-36 on points in the paint. Through four games so far this year the Trailblazers have scored pretty well versus comparable opponents. I like Utah Tech to at least hit the 70-point mark here in a cover effort.
