The losses in that time have come courtesy of Merrimack, Quinnipiac, Siena, Quinnipiac again and Saint Peter’s. Over the first 24 outings of the year that gives the Mountaineers a 10-14 run.

In the Manhattan game back on Sunday the Mountaineers were looking up at a 32-27 advantage on the scoreboard as the second half began. Mount St. Mary’s kept it going from there on a 40-38 stretch and took the victory in the end 72-65. I’ll lean toward Merrimack but you could probably argue this one either way. The Warriors didn’t shoot great in their win over Sacred Heart last weekend, hitting 39.7 percent from the field. The good news is that Merrimack had a 32-18 advantage in the paint, a nice 84.2 percent (16-of-19) at the line and just five turnovers. The Warriors are 4-1 in their last five games and playing pretty well these days.

These teams last met up back on January 2 in a 75-65 home win for the Warriors. In that one Merrimack hit a tepid 41.3 percent from the field but held the Mountaineers to just 38.6 percent on defense. Trouble is, Merrimack also got out-rebounded badly 38-18 and outscored in the paint 36-24. Mount St. Mary’s had 15 turnovers and a rough 2-of-18 (11.1 percent) from outside. Merrimack really needs to clean things up before the road rematch.
