Over on the Creighton side, they opened the season on a 3-1 stretch with wins over South Dakota, Maryland Eastern Shore and North Dakota. The Jays have since gone just 3-4 with wins over Oregon, Nicholls and Xavier. The losses otherwise have been versus Baylor, Iowa State, Nebraska and Kansas State. In total that gives Creighton a 6-5 run across 11 games this year.

In the Xavier matchup on Wednesday the Bluejays were up comfortably 49-22 by halftime. Creighton hit another 49 points from there in a 98-57 win in the end. Austin Swartz put up 27 points with seven rebounds and four assists while Nik Graves had 12 points with five boards. Blake Harper chipped in with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists in the winning effort for the Jays as well.

I’m staying with Creighton. The Jays rolled right past a decent Xavier team at Cintas Center in their last outing, hitting a nice 60.3 percent from the field with a 37-27 rebounding edge and a 42-28 advantage on points in the paint. Creighton wasn’t the greatest at the line (6-of-10) but made up for it elsewhere. That gives the Jays a combined 174 points across their last two games, and they’ve hit 76 or more points in each of their last three wins.

As for Marquette, they shot just 26.9 percent (7-of-26) from outside in their loss to Georgetown, along with a 38-29 rebounding deficit. The Eagles didn’t play too badly otherwise, but the Hoyas 20-of-23 (87 percent) at the line buried any thought of a home win. Marquette has been below 70 points in consecutive games now, but to be fair that pair has come against a couple of good teams in Georgetown and Purdue.
